The highest paying jobs in India in 2026, according to published salary surveys, are senior leadership roles, specialist project and sales leaders, and technology roles in AI, data, architecture and product management. Michael Page’s 2026 salary data puts the top end of C-suite pay at around ₹8 crore a year, while self-reported data on AmbitionBox shows engineering managers, senior product managers and data architects averaging ₹33–42 lakh.

Below we rank roles using only figures from named, dated reports and salary databases, and we label each figure for what it is: an upper-range survey number, an average band, or a median. A lakh is ₹100,000 and a crore is ₹10 million (100 lakh); LPA means lakh per annum. At roughly ₹96 to the US dollar (Trading Economics, 2 October 2026), ₹1 crore is about $104,000.

Key takeaways

  • Michael Page’s 2026 list is led by C-suite roles (up to about ₹8 crore a year at the higher range), property and construction project managers (about ₹4.5 crore) and sales or channel managers (about ₹3.5 crore).
  • Among mid-career roles with large samples, technology leadership dominates: AmbitionBox shows engineering managers at ₹38.4–42.5 lakh and senior product managers at ₹36–39.7 lakh.
  • AI pays a measurable premium: TeamLease Digital found an ML platform architect with 15+ years earns ₹94.8 lakh, and Naukri reported the sharpest AI/ML hiring growth in the ₹50 lakh-plus band.
  • Randstad found IT pays the highest average salary of any sector at junior, middle and senior levels.

How we built this list

No single survey covers every profession, so a fair ranking has to combine sources and be clear about what each one measures.

  • Michael Page Salary Guide 2026 reports the higher range of pay for senior hires placed by the recruiter. These are ceilings for experienced specialists, not averages.
  • AmbitionBox (Info Edge) publishes average salary bands from employee-reported data, with sample sizes, updated in early October 2026.
  • Levels.fyi publishes medians of total compensation, including stock and bonus, mainly from tech and finance employers.
  • Randstad’s Salary Trends Report 2025–26 and TeamLease Digital’s Digital Skills and Salary Primer FY2026–27 give role and sector benchmarks across experience levels.

We have left out roles where the only data is a handful of self-reports. For example, AmbitionBox’s commercial pilot page is based on five salaries and flagged as low confidence, so we do not rank it.

The top end: Michael Page’s highest paying jobs in India

Michael Page’s list, published on 7 April 2026 and based on its 2026 Salary Guide, ranks roles by the higher range of pay. Its article converts monthly ceilings into approximate annual figures.

Rank Role (function) Higher range, approx. per year
1 C-suite roles ₹8 crore
2 Project manager (property and construction) ₹4.5 crore
3 Sales / channel manager ₹3.5 crore
4 HR partner for a GCC ₹3.1 crore
5 Technical R&D specialist (healthcare and life sciences) ₹3 crore
6 Internal audit, controls and risk specialist ₹2.5 crore
7 Private banker ₹2.25 crore
8 Data science / traditional machine learning specialist ₹2 crore
9 Compensation and benefits specialist ₹1.8 crore
10 Financial services lawyer ₹1.75 crore

Two points are easy to miss. These are top-of-band figures for senior people, typically with long experience, so they say little about what the median professional in that function earns. And several entries reflect specific demand spikes: Michael Page links the property project manager role to India’s infrastructure pipeline, and the GCC HR partner role to multinationals scaling their India centres. The same page notes that overall salary growth has settled at around 8–12%, with bigger jumps for specialists who switch jobs.

Highest paying mid-career and senior roles (large samples)

For a more representative picture, AmbitionBox’s average bands are built on thousands of reported salaries. These are the highest averages among the roles we checked, all updated between 1 and 4 October 2026.

Role Average band (AmbitionBox) Typical experience in sample Salaries reported
Engineering manager ₹38.4–42.5 lakh 7–20 years 22,900
Senior product manager ₹36–39.7 lakh 5–15 years 22,600
Group product manager ₹35.9–39.7 lakh 7–16 years 2,300
Lead data scientist ₹34–37.5 lakh 5–14 years 4,700
Data architect ₹33.6–37.2 lakh 8–18 years 2,900
Solution architect ₹32.3–35.7 lakh 8–18 years 23,200
Cloud architect ₹28.7–31.7 lakh 5–18 years 2,900
Management consultant ₹27.8–30.8 lakh 2–16 years 11,100
Investment banker ₹28.1–33.2 lakh 0–11 years 333

For comparison, AmbitionBox’s band for chartered accountants, a traditionally prestigious career, is ₹11.4–12.6 lakh with 0–10 years of experience, rising to ₹14–15.4 lakh at 9–12 years. Technology and product leadership roles clearly sit higher on average.

Where the median is highest: Levels.fyi

Levels.fyi’s India medians, which include stock and bonus, show product management ahead of engineering and data roles across its sample:

  • Product manager: ₹44.8 lakh median, from 1,659 submissions (Levels.fyi)
  • Software engineer: ₹30 lakh median, from 23,674 submissions (Levels.fyi)
  • Data scientist: ₹29.9 lakh median, from 1,159 submissions (Levels.fyi)
  • ML / AI software engineer: ₹28.4 lakh median, from 1,459 submissions (Levels.fyi)

All were accessed on 4 October 2026. Because Levels.fyi users skew towards global tech firms, these medians run well above AmbitionBox’s for the same titles. If you are looking for these roles, our AI and ML jobs page lists current openings from official careers pages.

AI roles: the fastest-rising pay premium

TeamLease Digital’s Digital Skills and Salary Primer FY2026–27, which studied about 37,000 tech and digital roles, splits jobs into AI-core, AI-adjacent and AI-support tiers. It reported that a GenAI developer earns ₹11.2 lakh at 0–2 years and ₹34.5 lakh at 6–8 years, while at 15+ years an ML platform architect earns ₹94.8 lakh and a platform engineering manager ₹75.6 lakh, according to CXOToday. The previous edition put chief AI officer pay at ₹2–2.5 crore, according to TeamLease Digital.

Hiring demand is concentrated at the top of the pay scale. In March 2026, Naukri’s JobSpeak report found AI/ML hiring grew 37% year on year, and growth was steepest in the ₹50 lakh-plus band at 55%, according to Naukri. AI/ML hiring ended FY26 up 45%.

Which sectors pay the most, and where pay is rising fastest

Randstad’s Salary Trends Report 2025–26 found IT pays the highest average CTC at every level: ₹6.65 lakh for junior, ₹20.75 lakh for middle and ₹35.66 lakh for senior professionals, according to MediaBrief. Its top-paying mid-level roles were all in technology, led by software developer (₹17.27 lakh), PHP developer (₹16.86 lakh), JavaScript developer (₹16.72 lakh) and product manager (₹16.25 lakh).

Pay growth is a different story. Aon’s 2025–26 survey of more than 1,400 organisations projects the biggest 2026 increases in real estate and infrastructure (10.2%) and non-banking financial companies (10.1%), followed by automotive and engineering design services (both 9.9%), according to Aon. Technology consulting and services is projected at only 6.6%. So the sectors with the highest pay levels are not necessarily the ones where pay is rising fastest.

High-paying options for freshers and early-career professionals

The crore-plus figures above are out of reach for most early-career professionals, but the published data shows which entry routes pay best in the first few years.

Role and experience Reported pay Source
Management consultant, 1–3 years ₹16.4–18.2 lakh average AmbitionBox
Product manager, 1–3 years ₹15.5–17.1 lakh average AmbitionBox
Software development engineer, 1–3 years ₹11.6–12.9 lakh average AmbitionBox
AI/ML engineer, 1–3 years ₹11.5–12.7 lakh average AmbitionBox
GenAI developer, 0–2 years ₹11.2 lakh TeamLease Digital
Chartered accountant, 0–1 year ₹8.4–9.3 lakh average AmbitionBox

At global product companies the entry numbers are far higher. Levels.fyi lists ₹35 lakh in total compensation for Google’s entry software engineering level (L3) in India and ₹22.4 lakh for Flipkart’s SDE 1, as of 4 October 2026. TeamLease Digital’s FY2026–27 primer found entry-level AI-core roles in GCCs carry a median of ₹13.2 lakh.

Demand for well-paid freshers is also rising. Naukri reported that hiring for freshers in the ₹20 lakh-plus salary bracket grew 23% year on year in March 2026, while overall fresher hiring (0–3 years) grew 16%. The catch is that these roles are concentrated at a small number of employers, so the median graduate still starts far lower.

What this means for your career choices

Three patterns run through every dataset.

  • Seniority and scope beat title. The biggest numbers belong to people who own outcomes: leading engineering teams, running product lines, owning P&L or major client relationships.
  • Specialist skills command premiums. AI, data architecture, cloud and risk specialists all appear near the top, and TeamLease projects AI-core salaries to grow 16–21% in FY2027–28 against 7–8% for AI-support roles, per CIOL.
  • Employer type matters. GCCs, global product companies and well-funded startups pay more than services firms for comparable roles. Aon projects 9.3% increases at GCCs in 2026.

Bottom line

India’s highest published salaries in 2026 sit in leadership, specialist sales and project roles, and increasingly in AI and data. For most professionals, the realistic high-paying path runs through technology and product leadership, where large samples on AmbitionBox show averages of ₹35–42 lakh and Levels.fyi medians reach ₹45 lakh for product managers. The Michael Page crore-plus figures are real, but they are ceilings for a small group of senior hires rather than typical pay.
