To get a job at Sarvam AI in 2026, apply through its own careers page, which lists every opening on an Ashby job board. On 4 October 2026 the board had 59 roles, almost all full-time and on-site in Bengaluru or Delhi. Candidates say Sarvam tests what you can build more than puzzle-solving. 100Xfounder is an independent site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sarvam. This guide covers where the company is hiring, what its job posts ask for, what candidates report about interviews and how to prepare.

Key takeaways

  • Sarvam’s public Ashby board listed 59 open roles on 4 October 2026: 50 in Bengaluru and 9 in Delhi, all marked on-site.
  • Engineering is the biggest group (17 roles). Sales and go-to-market, product, marketing, infrastructure, deployment engineering and model research follow.
  • Eleven roles belong to “Chanakya”, a vertical that sells to defence and strategic-sector clients and deploys to air-gapped and on-prem systems.
  • Candidate reports describe practical build rounds and project deep dives rather than LeetCode-style coding tests. These are individual accounts, not an official process.
  • Most posts ask for three or more years of experience. Junior candidates have a better shot at internships, developer relations and some research roles.

What Sarvam does and why it is hiring

Sarvam was founded in August 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, according to the company’s about page. The page describes the goal as an AI platform “developed, deployed, and governed entirely in India”. The company works across foundation models, inference infrastructure and products for businesses, developers and government.

The past 18 months explain the hiring push. In April 2025 the government chose Sarvam from 67 applicants to build a sovereign large language model (LLM) under the IndiaAI Mission, with access to about 4,000 GPUs, MediaNama reported. On 18 February 2026, at the India AI Impact Summit, Sarvam launched two models it says it trained from scratch: Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B, according to Business Today. Two days later it released Indus, a chat app in beta, TechCrunch reported.

Then the money arrived. On 15 June 2026 Sarvam raised $234 million in the first close of a Series B round at a $1.5 billion post-money valuation, with HCLTech putting in $150 million, according to TechCrunch. Before that it had raised $41 million across its seed and Series A rounds. TechCrunch reported that the new money would fund research into next-generation models for agentic AI, coding and cybersecurity, plus more compute. Of the 59 roles open on 4 October, 27 were posted after that round closed.

Where Sarvam is hiring right now

Sarvam’s careers page links to a single job board. It names two offices: Indiranagar in Bengaluru, and Delhi. We pulled the list from Sarvam’s public Ashby job board on 4 October 2026. Here is how the 59 roles split by department:

Department Open roles Examples
Engineering 17 Backend, frontend, staff platform and data engineers, security, vision research
Sales/GTM 9 Solution architects, account manager, partnerships lead, GTM for the Model API
Product 8 PMs for growth, monetisation, models, on-device AI, Sarvam Studio; product designer
Marketing 8 Product marketing, growth marketing, motion and visual design, two internships
Infrastructure 7 Performance engineers for GPU kernels and inference, HPC SRE, DevOps
Deployment Engineering 4 Agent engineer, deployment strategist, strategic deployment engineer
Models 3 ML researcher and ML engineer (data) for foundation models; PM for Model APIs
Other 3 Business development, IT lead, developer relations

Every role on the board was marked on-site, and 50 of the 59 were in Bengaluru. If you want to stay remote, Sarvam is a poor fit right now. On 4 October, eight of the nine Delhi roles sat inside the Chanakya vertical.

You can browse the same openings, refreshed from the official feed, on our Sarvam AI jobs page. For similar roles at other companies, see AI and ML jobs.

What “Chanakya” roles involve

Chanakya is a separate vertical with its own engineers, data scientists, product manager and client-facing staff. The Engagement Principal posting says the team serves defence and strategic-sector clients. It wants people who understand defence procurement and can work with command-level stakeholders. The Strategic Deployment Engineer posting says engineers there deploy Sarvam’s stack in “air-gapped, classified, and on-prem environments”. If you have worked with government, public-sector undertakings (PSUs) or regulated infrastructure, these roles fit you better than the core product teams.

What Sarvam looks for

Sarvam has no public “how we hire” page. Its job posts, though, say a lot about the bar. A few themes come up again and again.

Production experience over credentials

The Agent Engineer posting says it is hiring at several levels from three years of experience. It adds that years matter less than whether you have built something real users relied on and kept it working. The post treats AI agents as engineered code: versioned, reviewed and covered by tests, with evaluations that catch quality drift. Expect questions about how you would know a system had broken, not only how you built it.

Numbers you can defend

The product posts are blunt. The Product Manager, Growth posting asks for five or more years in product, with two to three of them owning growth or activation. It wants candidates who can describe one activation metric they moved: the baseline, what they shipped, and what did and did not work. It also expects PMs to write SQL themselves rather than wait for a data team.

Depth in one area, range across others

Research and infrastructure posts look for specialists. The Researcher, Vision posting asks for a record of good research through papers, technical reports or shipped work. It lists a PhD or master’s and papers at top venues as bonuses, not requirements. The HPC infrastructure SRE post says Sarvam wants “a team of specialists rather than a set of identical generalists”, each with real depth in one area.

AI-first habits

Even the Marketing Intern posting asks for fluency with modern AI tools and the ability to build workflows and automations with them. It invites applicants to attach work samples. The company describes its culture in the same posts: “Everything we do is AI-first”, plus high ownership from the first day and a team that holds each other to a high bar.

The hiring process: what we know and what candidates report

Sarvam has not published a standard interview loop, and it likely differs by team. Here is what is confirmed: you apply on the Ashby board, and every posting is full-time and on-site in a named city. Everything below comes from candidate reports. Treat these as one person’s experience, not a guarantee.

  1. Application and screening. One fresher, writing on Devs Unite in September 2026, described a 30-minute first call. It was mostly a technical walk-through of their GitHub projects, with questions on design choices.
  2. A practical build round. The same candidate reported a timed, proctored round of about two hours to build a small multilingual feature, with AI tools and outside resources allowed. A 2024 machine-learning engineer report on Blind describes a 2.5-hour on-site screening task to build a speech component from scratch. External APIs were not allowed.
  3. A technical defence or deep dive. The 2026 candidate said two engineers reviewed the code and asked how it would change with more languages or more data. The 2024 report describes an interview led by a team head that covered ML fundamentals, transformer architecture, a small coding task and Sarvam’s own models.
  4. Hiring manager conversation. The 2026 candidate described the last round as a conversation about motivation and approach, not more code.

Both reports say no data structures and algorithms (DSA) round was asked. The 2026 candidate said the whole process took about three weeks from first call to offer. That is one data point. Senior, research and Chanakya roles may run differently.

Interview focus by role

Without an official loop, the best guide to each interview is the job post. Here is what to prepare, based on what each team says it needs.

  • Engineering and infrastructure: be ready to discuss reliability, idempotency, back-pressure, observability and cost. Performance posts such as the GPU kernels role name specific open-source projects, such as FlashAttention and vLLM. Know the ones named in your role.
  • Models and research: expect deep questions on training, evaluation and failure modes. Bring a paper, technical report or shipped model you can explain end to end.
  • Deployment and agent engineering: prepare a story about integrating AI into a messy legacy system, such as core banking or a government workflow. Explain how you measured whether it worked.
  • Product: bring before-and-after metrics, the experiments you ran and what you killed.
  • GTM, sales and Chanakya: prepare examples of enterprise or public-sector deals, RFP responses and proofs of concept you scoped.

How to stand out

  1. Build something with Indian languages. Sarvam’s whole pitch is AI that works for India. A public project that handles Hindi, Tamil, Kannada or another Indian language, with notes on what broke, speaks directly to the work. In the 2026 candidate report, the first call centred on a project like this.
  2. Use Sarvam’s own products before you apply. Its 30B and 105B models and the Indus app are public. Being able to say where they worked and failed for your use case is far more useful than generic enthusiasm.
  3. Show evaluations, not demos. The agent and product posts stress measuring quality. Show the test set, metric or dashboard behind your project.
  4. Match the experience band honestly. Most roles ask for three to ten years. If you are early in your career, look at the internships, the Developer Relations Engineer role (one to three years) and research roles that value strong shipped work.
  5. Attach work samples where asked. Several marketing and design posts ask for them directly.
  6. Be ready to move. Every role is on-site. If you would need to relocate to Bengaluru or Delhi, plan for it and say so plainly.

Referrals, pay and offers

Sarvam does not publish a referral programme or salary bands on its careers page. The postings we reviewed carried no pay ranges. Some product posts list “competitive cash, meaningful equity, top-tier health insurance” and a Bangalore office. One adds that internal hackathon winners get a PS5. Figures you see on job forums and careers sites are not confirmed by the company, so we have left them out.

If you get an offer, work out the monthly take-home before you compare it with your current pay. In India, salaries are usually quoted as a yearly CTC (cost to company) in lakhs per annum (LPA; one lakh is ₹100,000). Our in-hand salary calculator converts CTC to take-home pay. If you are serving a notice period, the notice period buyout calculator helps you estimate the cost of leaving early. Tax rules change, so confirm the details with a qualified tax professional.

Bottom line

Sarvam is one of the few Indian companies training large foundation models from scratch, and it now has unicorn-scale funding to hire. The bar in its job posts is high and practical: real production work, measured results and depth in one area. If you can show that, ideally on something built for Indian languages, you have a real case. If you need remote work or are looking for your first job outside an internship, the current openings will be harder to land.
