Best AI tools for resumes and job search in India, compared
ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini vs Jobscan, Teal, Rezi and Naukri Pro: which AI tool fits each job-search task, India prices, and what recruiters say.
The best AI tool for a resume depends on the job you need done. A general chatbot such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini is enough for tailoring a resume to a job description, drafting a cover letter and practising interviews; dedicated tools such as Jobscan, Teal and Rezi add keyword match scores and job tracking. Indian job seekers also have Naukri Pro and LinkedIn Premium, which work inside those platforms.
This guide compares them by task, with prices from each vendor’s own page as of 6 November 2026, and sums up what employers and recruiters have said publicly about AI-written applications.
Key takeaways
- For most people, a free chatbot plus their own careful editing covers tailoring, cover letters and interview prep; paid resume tools mainly add match scores, templates and trackers.
- Jobscan’s free plan includes five resume scans a month, according to Jobscan’s own blog; Teal’s free plan includes unlimited resumes and job tracking with limited AI credits.
- Naukri Pro, which includes Naukri’s AI Resume Maker and AI mock interviews, was launched at ₹999 a month, ₹1,999 for three months and ₹2,999 for six months, according to Naukri’s November 2025 announcement.
- Employers draw the same line: AI may polish your words, but it must never invent experience. Anthropic’s candidate guidance asks applicants to write the first draft themselves.
- Recruiters quoted by CNBC in September 2026 warned that copy-pasted AI resumes look alike and can trigger fraud checks.
General chatbots vs dedicated resume tools
General chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are flexible writing partners, while dedicated resume tools such as Jobscan, Teal and Rezi are built around one workflow: comparing a resume with a job description and scoring the match. You can do most of what the dedicated tools do with a chatbot and a good prompt, but you won’t get a score, a template library or a tracker.
The free chatbot tiers are already generous. OpenAI’s pricing page lists unlimited everyday chats, projects and limited file uploads on ChatGPT Free, and Google’s India subscriptions page lists the free Gemini plan at ₹0 with Deep Research, Canvas and Gemini Live. Claude has a free plan too, with Claude Pro at $20 a month on Anthropic’s pricing page.
Dedicated tools earn their price when you apply to many roles at once. Jobscan compares your resume with a pasted job description and returns a match rate. Teal saves jobs through a Chrome extension and gives each one a match score and its own resume version, according to Jobscan’s March 2026 comparison of the two. Rezi focuses on writing and formatting, with an AI writer and a keyword-targeting score on its pricing page.

Which AI tool for which job-search task
The quickest way to pick is by task: a chatbot for tailoring, writing and interview practice, a scanner for keyword checks, and the platform’s own AI for Naukri and LinkedIn profiles. The sections below match each common task with the tools built for it.
Tailoring a resume to a job description
Tailoring a resume to a job description works well in any chatbot if you paste both and ask what is missing, rather than asking it to rewrite everything. That is the method Sam DeMase, a career expert at ZipRecruiter, described to CNBC on 23 September 2026: write the resume yourself, then give an AI tool the job description and your resume and ask which skills or experiences are missing. LinkedIn Premium users can do the same inside LinkedIn: its Resume Tips feature compares an uploaded resume with a job posting and suggests rewrites, on desktop and in English only.
ATS keyword checks
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software employers use to collect and sort applications, and keyword checkers estimate how closely your resume matches a posting. Jobscan is the best-known scanner; its blog says the free tier includes five scans a month and that it gives guidance for systems such as Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse and iCIMS. Jobscan’s February 2026 comparison with Resume Worded says Premium comes with a 7-day free trial. Teal+ adds full keyword matching, and Rezi’s paid plan unlocks its full Rezi Score and keyword targeting.
Treat any score as a hint, not a verdict. In its own comparison with Rezi, Jobscan reported that the same unedited resume scored 92 on Rezi without a job description and 42 on Jobscan, which shows that the tools measure different things.
Cover letters
Every tool here can draft a cover letter, but the main thing is whether you need one at all. Julia Stiglitz of Handshake told CNBC in September 2026 that employers care much less about cover letters and that early-stage companies and startups may stop asking for them. Glassdoor’s chief economist Daniel Zhao said in the same piece that a short, specific letter helps when your background is unexpected. If you write one, use AI for the outline and edit it into your own voice.
Interview preparation
Chatbots are good mock interviewers: paste the job description, ask for likely questions and answer them aloud. Anthropic’s candidate AI guidance openly encourages applicants to use Claude to research the company, practise answers and prepare questions. Rezi Pro includes unlimited AI interviews, according to Rezi, and Naukri Pro includes AI mock interviews, according to Naukri’s launch announcement.
Practice matters more now that AI interviewers are common. CNBC reported on 16 September 2026 that 63% of 2,950 job seekers surveyed by Greenhouse in the US, UK, Ireland, Germany and Australia said they had been interviewed by AI.
LinkedIn profile and Naukri profile
For your LinkedIn profile, LinkedIn’s own profile writing assistant suggests headline and About text, but LinkedIn says it is available only to a select group of Premium subscribers. Jobscan’s LinkedIn Optimizer scores a profile against job descriptions, while Jobscan says Teal has no LinkedIn tool. For Naukri, the AI Resume Maker can import your Naukri profile, refine wording and download an ATS-friendly format, according to Naukri’s announcement of 20 November 2025.
Polishing grammar and tone
Grammarly fixes grammar and tone wherever you type, including job portals and email. Its help center lists Grammarly Pro at $30 a month, $60 a quarter or $144 a year, and says it offers regional pricing in Indian rupees shown at checkout.
Prices and plans compared
Most AI resume tools cost between ₹0 and about $30 a month, and nearly all have a free tier worth trying before you pay. The table lists each tool’s free option and lowest paid plans from the vendor’s own page or announcement.
| Tool | Free option | Paid price | Best for |

What employers and recruiters say about AI-written applications
Employers that publish rules on AI in applications generally allow AI for editing and preparation but forbid using it to invent experience or to answer during live assessments. Anthropic’s candidate guidance asks applicants to write their first draft themselves and then use Claude to refine it, and it lists using Claude to describe experiences you haven’t had as a prohibited use.
The same guidance says take-home assessments and live interviews are done without AI unless Anthropic says otherwise. It also says Anthropic uses Claude to write job descriptions and interview questions, but does not use candidate data to train Claude and does not let Claude make hiring decisions.
The UK Civil Service takes a similar line. Its AI and recruitment guidance allows AI for refining ideas, checking spelling and grammar and researching public information, but not for overstating skills or answering during a live interview, and warns that applications using AI inappropriately may be rejected.
Recruiters quoted in the press are wary of sameness. Bonnie Dilber, a recruiting leader at Zapier, told CNBC that a resume copied straight from an AI tool can trigger fraud alerts that recruiters must investigate, and Glassdoor’s Daniel Zhao said AI-tailored applications often look alike because people use the same prompts. CNBC also reported that 47% of workers in a CNBC and SurveyMonkey poll of 1,686 people in July 2026 had used AI to apply for jobs.
Fabrication is the real risk. SHRM reported in March 2024 that employers check resumes against LinkedIn profiles and ask probing interview questions to catch AI-embellished claims, and that AI can insert false details a candidate never intended. If you’re hiring rather than applying, our guide to AI recruiting tools covers the other side of the desk.
Rules for using AI safely on your resume
The safe way to use AI on a resume is to give it only true facts, check every line it returns and keep personal data out of the prompt. These five rules follow from the employer guidance above and the vendors’ own warnings.
- Never let AI invent numbers. If a tool writes “improved sales by 30%” and you can’t prove it, delete it. Jobscan’s own comparison warns that Rezi’s bullet writer can invent metrics, and LinkedIn says its AI responses may contain inaccuracies.
- Write first, then refine. Start from your own draft, as Anthropic asks, so the resume reflects what you actually did.
- Strip personal data before pasting. Remove your phone number, address, Aadhaar or PAN numbers and current salary from anything you paste into a chatbot. OpenAI’s pricing page says users can opt out of having their content used to train models; check that setting before you start.
- Make the language yours. Recruiters say generic AI phrasing stands out. Read the result aloud and rewrite anything you wouldn’t say in an interview.
- Follow each employer’s rules. Use no AI in tests or live interviews unless the employer allows it.
Bottom line
Start with a free chatbot and your own draft, add Jobscan’s free scans or Teal’s free tracker if you apply to many roles, and pay only when a specific feature saves you time. In India, Naukri Pro is worth considering only if most of your applications go through Naukri.

FAQ
Which AI is best for writing a resume for free?
For a free option, ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude all have free plans that can review a resume against a job description and suggest rewrites. Pair one with Jobscan’s free tier, which includes five scans a month according to Jobscan, or Teal’s free plan with unlimited resumes and job tracking. Write the first draft yourself and check every line the AI changes.
Can recruiters tell if my resume was written by AI?
Often, yes, if the text is generic. A Zapier recruiting leader told CNBC in September 2026 that a copy-pasted AI resume can trigger fraud alerts, and Glassdoor’s chief economist said AI-tailored applications tend to look alike. Using AI to edit is widely accepted; inventing experience is not, and employers such as Anthropic and the UK Civil Service say so explicitly.
Is Naukri Pro’s AI Resume Maker worth paying for?
Naukri Pro makes sense if most of your applications go through Naukri. Naukri’s November 2025 announcement priced it at ₹999 for one month, ₹1,999 for three months and ₹2,999 for six, with the AI Resume Maker, profile import, AI mock interviews and skills insights included. If you apply mainly through company career pages, a free chatbot does most of the same work.
Is it safe to paste my resume into ChatGPT or Gemini?
It is reasonably safe if you remove sensitive details first. Strip your phone number, home address, Aadhaar and PAN numbers and salary figures, and keep only your experience and skills. OpenAI’s pricing page says users can opt out of model training; check the data settings in whichever chatbot you use before uploading anything personal.
Should I still write a cover letter in 2026?
Only when the employer asks for one or your background needs explaining. Handshake’s Julia Stiglitz told CNBC in September 2026 that employers care much less about cover letters, especially startups. Glassdoor’s Daniel Zhao said a short, specific letter helps when your path is unexpected, such as a career switch. Keep it brief and in your own words.
