Neuralink is a neurotechnology company developing brain-computer interfaces: devices implanted in the brain that read neural signals and turn them into commands for a computer or phone. It was founded in 2016, with Elon Musk among its founders. It also builds its own surgical robot to place the implant.
Its first product, called Telepathy, is aimed at people with paralysis, letting them move a cursor and type by thought. In a post on 28 January 2026 marking two years of human trials, Neuralink said 21 participants, whom it calls Neuralnauts, were enrolled in its trials worldwide, that the trial had grown from three participants in 2024 to several a month in 2025, and that it had seen no serious device-related adverse events. It said some participants type at up to 40 words a minute, and that a separate trial called VOICE aims to restore speech. These are the company’s own figures and have not been independently verified.
A second device, Blindsight, is meant to restore some vision to people who have lost their sight. The US Food and Drug Administration gave it a Breakthrough Device designation in 2024, and in May 2025 Neuralink received another for restoring communication to people with severe speech impairment, according to reporting on its funding.
On 2 June 2025 Neuralink announced a $650 million Series E. Investors included ARK Invest, Founders Fund, Sequoia Capital and Thrive Capital, TechCrunch reported, and Semafor put the pre-money valuation at about $9 billion.
Neuralink has no product on sale and no published price. Its devices are available only to people enrolled in its clinical trials.
This page is research, not a review: Neuralink has no product we could try. It brings together Neuralink’s own website and the reporting linked under Sources, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use Neuralink for
- Controlling a computer cursor and typing by thought (Telepathy, in trials)
- Restoring communication for people with severe speech impairment (VOICE trial)
- Restoring some vision for people who are blind (Blindsight, in development)
Who Neuralink is for
- people with quadriplegia from spinal cord injury or ALS who may qualify for its trials
- researchers, clinicians and investors following brain-computer interfaces
- anyone looking to buy a device: nothing is for sale
- people who want a non-invasive option, since Neuralink's device requires brain surgery
Neuralink pros and cons
- Large funding base for long clinical programmes
- Publishes regular trial updates on its own site
- Requires brain surgery
- Performance figures come from the company and are not independently verified
Neuralink alternatives and how they compare
