Base Code
Let your whole team build on your product
What Base Code does
Base Code is a browser-based workspace from Base44 for working on a codebase you already have. You connect a GitHub repository, describe a change in plain language, and Base Code makes it on an isolated branch with a live preview. When the change is ready, it goes to engineering as a standard GitHub pull request, so existing branch protections, required checks and review rules stay in place and engineers still decide what merges.
The pitch is that more of the team can contribute: product, design, marketing and QA as well as engineering. Nobody needs to clone the repository or set up a local development environment, and teammates can see each other’s sessions and live previews and jump into any branch. GitHub stays the source of truth: Base Code commits and pushes to the working branch as you chat. It works with web and full-stack projects, keeps the project’s own stack, and stores secrets encrypted across branches. The preview is for development only; you still release through your own hosting and deployment process.
Base Code launched on Product Hunt on 12 October 2026, Base44’s ninth launch there, and finished #3 for the day with 196 upvotes. The footer of Base44’s site credits Wix.com Ltd.
We have not tested Base Code ourselves. This page brings together Base44’s Base Code page, documentation and pricing page, its Product Hunt launch and the official pricing pages of comparable tools, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use Base Code for
- A product manager or designer fixing copy, layout or small features without waiting for an engineer
- QA reproducing and fixing a bug on its own branch, then handing it over as a pull request
- Marketing updating a landing page that lives in the product's codebase
- Engineers reviewing teammates' changes with the same pull-request process they already use

Who Base Code is for
- have an existing web or full-stack product in a GitHub repository
- want non-engineers to contribute changes while engineering keeps code review and branch protections
- don't want every contributor to set up a local development environment
- host your code on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps: Base Code's documentation covers GitHub only
- are building an app inside Base44's own app editor: the docs say to keep using the editor and its GitHub integration
- want hosting for production: the preview is for development only
- have a repository whose root project is not a web or full-stack app, such as a pure mobile app
Base Code pros and cons
- Works on your existing codebase and stack; no migration to Base44's own platform
- Changes arrive as standard GitHub pull requests, and branch protections and checks still apply
- No local setup for contributors
- Isolated branches with live previews, visible to the whole team
- GitHub remains the source of truth
- No published price, and no statement of which plan includes it
- GitHub only, according to the docs
- Web and full-stack projects only at the repository root
- Preview is not production hosting
- Opening a pull request needs GitHub write access; without it you work on a fork or copy
