Spill Games raises $10.5M Series A led by Elevation Capital
Bengaluru casual-game studio Spill Games, founded by ex-PlaySimple staff, raised $10.5 million from Elevation Capital to scale its AI-led game portfolio.
Spill Games, a Bengaluru studio that makes casual and puzzle games for players outside India, has raised $10.5 million (about ₹100 crore) in a Series A round led by Elevation Capital, according to Inc42. The round was announced on 14 October 2026, six months after a $3.1 million seed, and existing backers Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital also invested, DealStreetAsia reported.
No valuation was disclosed. The company describes itself as an “AI-led” studio, and most of the new money is going into the in-house platform it uses to build, test and run many small games at once.
Key takeaways
- Spill Games raised a $10.5 million Series A led by Elevation Capital, with Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital following on. A crore is 10 million rupees, so ₹100 crore is ₹1 billion.
- Its three founders previously worked at PlaySimple Games, the Bengaluru word-game studio that Elevation backed in 2016 and that Sweden’s MTG bought for $360 million in 2021.
- The studio makes free-to-play casual, puzzle and hybrid-casual games and earns from ads and in-app purchases. Its April seed coverage said about half its players were in the US.
- The round follows India’s 2025 ban on online money games, which pushed investors towards games played for fun rather than stakes.
The round and who invested
Elevation Capital led the Series A, and Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital, which co-led the seed, put in more money, according to DealStreetAsia and Inc42. Entrepreneur India said other investors also took part but did not name them. None of the reports gave a valuation or the company’s total funding to date.
The money will go into scaling the games that are already working, adding more titles to the pipeline, building more AI and technology into its Compass platform, buying users, and hiring selectively, according to Inc42.
Om Misra, co-founder and CEO, summed up the approach for Entrepreneur India: “We build what excites us, put it in front of players quickly and let their response guide us.” Manish Advani, a principal at Elevation Capital, told the same outlet that the small team could build a portfolio of global games from India.

What Spill Games makes
Spill was founded in 2024 by Om Misra, Tapan Ranjan and Harsh Garg. It builds free-to-play casual, puzzle and hybrid-casual games for a global audience. Hybrid-casual games pair the simple controls of casual games with deeper progression that keeps players coming back and spending.
Inc42 listed five titles in the portfolio: Cozy Finds, Sticker by Number, Zen Math Crossword, Bird Rescue Jam and Grill Master. It put the total at six games, and Entrepreneur India said the studio went from three games to six within a few months.
The company’s method is to ship a game early, see how players respond, then put more money behind the titles that hold attention and earn. In April it told PocketGamer.biz that three of its five live titles had positive unit economics, meaning each player brought in more than it cost to acquire them. It planned to test more than 20 prototypes over 18 months and end up with five to ten profitable games.
The Compass platform and the “AI-led” label
Compass is Spill’s in-house platform for analytics, player retention, monetisation and live operations, according to Inc42. Because each new game reuses the same tools and data plumbing, the studio says it can build games about four times faster than a traditional approach. That is the company’s own target, not an independently measured figure.
The “AI-led” label is about that operating layer. None of the reports say Spill uses generative AI to create game art or code, and the company has not given detail on which AI features it is adding.

From a $3.1 million seed to a Series A in six months
Spill’s seed round of $3.1 million (about ₹28 crore) was reported on 22 April 2026. Centre Court Capital and PeerCapital co-led it and existing backer All In Capital took part, according to Inc42. At the time Inc42 said about 50% of Spill’s players were in the US, 15% in Brazil and 10% in Japan, and it reported an annualised revenue run rate of $1.5 million in February. The company did not share detailed financials.
Raising a Series A roughly six months after a seed is fast, and it suggests the early games did enough to convince a larger fund.
The PlaySimple connection
The founders’ background explains much of the investor interest. PocketGamer.biz describes all three as former PlaySimple operators, with Misra as CEO and Garg as CTO.
PlaySimple is one of Indian gaming’s best-known exits. Sweden’s Modern Times Group (MTG) agreed to buy it in July 2021 for at least $360 million, with up to $150 million more tied to performance targets, according to TechCrunch. PlaySimple’s revenue grew 144% to $83 million in 2020. It had raised only $4.5 million from outside investors, including a $4 million Series A in 2016 from Elevation Capital and Chiratae Ventures.
Elevation calls PlaySimple its first gaming investment in a 2023 post on its gaming thesis, which lists “studio plays” among the themes it wanted to back. Backing former PlaySimple staff who are building another casual-game portfolio fits that thesis.

The market Spill is selling into
Spill builds for players abroad, mainly in the US. The global mobile gaming market will be worth an estimated $176.7 billion in 2026 and could reach $256.2 billion by 2030, growing about 10.2% a year, according to Grand View Research. The same firm says Asia Pacific held a 52.3% share of revenue in 2024.
India’s own market is smaller and less lucrative per player. Lumikai’s State of India Interactive Media report put India’s video games market, excluding real-money games, at $1.5 billion in 2025, up 17% from a year earlier, as reported by Outlook Respawn. The gamer base shrank from 609 million to 555 million after real-money gaming was banned. A paying mid-core player spent about $15 against about $3 for a paying casual player. That gap is one reason Indian casual studios aim for US players first.
Why the 2025 law matters
Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill on 21 August 2025. It bans online money games and promotes e-sports and online social games, according to the government’s Press Information Bureau. Since then, investors have had to choose studios whose revenue comes from ads and in-app purchases rather than stakes. Spill fits that model.

How this round fits India’s funding picture
Indian tech startups raised $10.3 billion between 1 January and 21 September 2026, up 7% on a year earlier, according to Tracxn data reported by MediaBrief. Early-stage funding, which includes Series A rounds like Spill’s, rose 27% to $4.2 billion, while seed funding fell 37% to $698 million. Bengaluru took 43% of the money. Fewer companies are raising, and the ones that show traction are raising bigger follow-on rounds. You can follow more rounds like this on our funding tracker.
Why it matters
Spill is a test of whether the PlaySimple approach can be repeated: a small Bengaluru team, global casual players, and tooling shared across many titles so each new game costs less to try. The main risks are those every casual studio faces. Buying users in the US is expensive, and a portfolio only works if a few hits pay for the many games that fail. The next numbers worth watching are how many of the 20-plus prototypes become lasting titles, and whether Compass really cuts the cost of each launch.
