Indian unicorns list 2026: every new unicorn and India’s total count
India's 2026 unicorns so far, from Juspay to Astrotalk, with each round, lead investor and valuation, plus how many unicorns India has by tracker.
India has added at least six and as many as eight unicorns (privately held startups valued at $1 billion or more) in 2026, depending on which tracker you read. Inc42’s tracker counted 133 Indian startups that have ever crossed the $1 billion mark as of mid-August 2026, while the Hurun Global Unicorn Index, which counts far fewer, put India’s figure at 61 in June.
This page lists every 2026 entrant with the round that made it a unicorn, the startups that listed on the stock market this year, and how the trackers differ. We update it as new rounds are reported; the latest change as of 15 October 2026 is Moneyview’s stock market debut on 1 October.
Key takeaways
- Trackers disagree on the 2026 tally: Tracxn counted six new unicorns to 21 September, Entrackr counted seven by mid-July, and Inc42’s tracker lists seven including Astrotalk in August.
- The 2026 class is led by AI (Sarvam, Emergent, Neysa) and fintech (Juspay, KreditBee), with India’s first spacetech unicorn, Skyroot Aerospace.
- Startups are reaching $1 billion faster and on less money: Tracxn puts average funding before unicorn status at $101 million in 2026, against $205 million in 2025.
- Several unicorns listed in 2026, including Shadowfax, Turtlemint, Shiprocket and Moneyview, according to Inc42’s IPO tracker.
How many unicorns does India have in 2026?
There is no single official count. Each tracker uses its own rules on what counts as Indian, whether listed and acquired companies stay on the list, and which reported valuations it accepts. Here are the three most cited figures, each with its date.
| Tracker | India’s count | As of | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inc42 Indian Unicorn Tracker | 133 | 15 August 2026 | Every Indian startup that has reached a $1 billion valuation, including 29 that have gone public, 16 that have fallen below $1 billion and 5 that were acquired |
| Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2026 | 61 (fourth in the world) | Reported 26 June 2026 | Unicorns based in India in Hurun’s global ranking |
| Tracxn (report covering 1 January to 21 September 2026) | 6 new unicorns in 2026 | 21 September 2026 | New entrants during the year |
The Inc42 figure is the broadest. According to Inc42, the 133 startups have together raised more than $118.5 billion and carried a combined valuation of more than $396.6 billion. Because the list keeps companies that later listed, shrank or were sold, it is best read as “how many Indian startups have ever been unicorns”, not “how many are unicorns today”.
The Hurun figure is the narrowest. According to IANS, India held fourth place with 61 unicorns in the Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2026, with Bengaluru home to 25 and Mumbai to 13. The same report said six Indian unicorns listed on public markets during the year, and that Indians co-founded 217 unicorns worldwide, 156 of them based outside India. Listings are one reason Hurun’s count is lower than Inc42’s.
When you see a number quoted without a tracker and a date, treat it with caution.

For every funding round we track as it happens, see our funding tracker.

Juspay (January)
Bengaluru-based Juspay, which builds payment orchestration, checkout and tokenisation software for enterprises and banks, was the year’s first unicorn. According to Entrepreneur India, it raised $50 million in a Series D follow-on led by WestBridge Capital, lifting its valuation to $1.2 billion from about $900 million in its previous round. Part of the round was secondary, giving early investors and employees holding stock options some liquidity.
Neysa (February)
Mumbai-based Neysa runs GPU cloud infrastructure in India for training and running AI models. According to Entrackr, the deal totalled $1.2 billion: $600 million of equity led by funds affiliated with Blackstone, with Teachers’ Venture Growth, TVS Capital, 360 ONE Assets and Nexus Venture Partners, plus $600 million of planned debt. Neysa did not comment on its valuation; Entrackr cited an ET report putting it at about $1.4 billion. That gap is why Inc42’s August tracker table does not list Neysa among 2026 entrants while Entrackr does.
KreditBee (April)
Bengaluru lender KreditBee raised a $280 million Series E at a $1.5 billion valuation, according to Business Today. Motilal Oswal Alternates, Hornbill Capital and MUFG-backed Dragon Funds led, with WhiteOak Capital, A.P. Moller Holding, Premji Invest and Advent International also taking part. The company said it was preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) within the current financial year.
Skyroot Aerospace (May)
Hyderabad’s Skyroot, which builds the Vikram series of small and medium satellite launch rockets, became India’s first spacetech unicorn. According to Entrackr, it raised $60 million co-led by Sherpalo Ventures and Singapore’s sovereign fund GIC, with BlackRock, Arkam Ventures, Playbook Partners and others, taking its post-money valuation above $1.1 billion from about $550 million in 2023.

Sarvam (June)
Bengaluru-based Sarvam builds AI models and enterprise products for Indian languages, speech, vision and documents. According to Inc42, it raised $234 million as part of a $300 million Series B at a $1.5 billion post-money valuation, with HCLTech investing $150 million alongside Bessemer Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners. Inc42 counted it as India’s 130th unicorn. If you want to work there, see our Sarvam AI jobs page.
Square Yards (June)
Proptech platform Square Yards raised ₹900 crore (about $95 million; one crore is 10 million rupees) in a mix of equity and debt led by EAAA Alternatives, with Muzinich & Co., according to Inc42. The company did not disclose its valuation, but sources told Inc42 it was above $1 billion, making Square Yards the 131st Indian unicorn on Inc42’s count. The company is preparing for an IPO.
Emergent (July)
Emergent lets people without coding skills build web and mobile apps using AI agents; the company says more than 12 million apps have been built on it. According to Entrackr, it raised a $130 million Series C led by Creaegis at a $1.5 billion valuation, with Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed and Y Combinator among the investors. Entrackr called it the seventh Indian unicorn of 2026; Inc42 called it the sixth, because Inc42 does not count Neysa.
Astrotalk (August)
Delhi NCR-based Astrotalk, an astrology consultation platform, became a unicorn without raising outside money. According to Inc42, more than 100 employees sold shares in an ESOP buyback at a $1 billion valuation, which Astrotalk confirmed; it did not disclose the size of the buyback. Inc42 reported operating revenue of ₹1,176 crore for FY25 and counted Astrotalk as India’s 133rd unicorn.
Why the trackers give different 2026 totals
Three counts for the same year can all be right on their own terms:
- Tracxn: six. Its report covering 1 January to 21 September 2026 counted six new unicorns, up from four in the same period of 2025, according to People Matters (Tracxn report via IANS).
- Entrackr: seven by mid-July. It counted Juspay, Neysa, KreditBee, Skyroot, Sarvam, Square Yards and Emergent.
- Inc42: seven by mid-August. Its tracker lists Juspay, Sarvam, KreditBee, Skyroot, Emergent, Square Yards and Astrotalk, and leaves out Neysa.
The differences come down to two questions. First, does an unconfirmed valuation count? Neysa’s and Square Yards’ valuations came from reports and sources, not the companies. Second, does a secondary sale count? Astrotalk’s $1 billion figure came from an employee buyback rather than a new funding round. If you cite a number, name the tracker and the date.
Unicorns that listed on the stock market in 2026
Listing changes how a unicorn is counted. Inc42 keeps listed companies in its total (29 of its 133 have gone public), while a private-company ranking such as Hurun’s drops them. According to Inc42, the startups below listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE in 2026 and are described by Inc42 as unicorns. The valuations are the IPO valuations Inc42 lists, in crore.
| Company | Business | Listing date | IPO valuation (Inc42) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadowfax | Logistics | 28 January | ₹7,169 crore |
| Turtlemint | Insurtech | 29 June | ₹4,476 crore |
| Shiprocket | Ecommerce logistics | 19 August | ₹9,531 crore |
| Moneyview | Digital lending | 1 October | Not stated |
| Fractal | AI and analytics | Not stated by Inc42 | ₹15,480 crore |
Inc42’s tracker counts 15 new-age tech listings in 2026 in total, most of them not unicorns. For daily coverage of listings and results, follow our news section.

Sector breakdown: where India’s unicorns are
The 2026 entrants split into four groups:
- AI (three): Sarvam (models), Emergent (AI app building) and Neysa (GPU cloud). Inc42’s tracker counts only three AI unicorns in India in total: Sarvam, Emergent and Ola’s Krutrim.
- Fintech (two): Juspay (payments) and KreditBee (lending).
- Spacetech (one): Skyroot, the first in its sector.
- Proptech and consumer services (two): Square Yards and Astrotalk.
Across all 133 Indian unicorns, Inc42’s tracker puts ecommerce first with 31 (its summary gives 29), followed by fintech with 26 and enterprise tech with 20. Consumer services have 8; media and entertainment, logistics and edtech have 7 each; travel tech and healthtech have 6 each. By city, Bengaluru leads with 55, followed by Delhi NCR with 42, Mumbai with 18, Pune with 8, Chennai with 5 and Hyderabad with 3, according to the same tracker.
Tracxn’s figures show where the money went this year. AI infrastructure was the most-funded theme at $1.2 billion, and enterprise infrastructure funding rose 436%, according to its report as covered by People Matters (Tracxn report via IANS).

How 2026 compares with earlier years
2026 is ahead of 2025 but nowhere near the 2021 boom. Tracxn counted six new unicorns in the first nine months of 2026, against four in the same period of 2025. Inc42 expects about 10 unicorns this year at the current pace, more than in 2025 but far below the 45 startups that became unicorns in 2021.
The bigger shift is speed. According to Tracxn, startups that became unicorns in 2026 raised an average of $101 million before crossing $1 billion, against $205 million in 2025, and took 4.9 years from their Series A, against 6.6 years. Total funding for Indian tech startups from January to 21 September 2026 was $10.3 billion, up 7% on the year, even as the number of rounds fell 38%.
Why it matters
The 2026 class shows investors paying for AI and deep tech that India has not had at scale before: a sovereign-language model company, a GPU cloud, an AI app builder and a rocket maker. It also shows that the unicorn label has become a looser signal. Two of the eight valuations were not confirmed by the companies, and one came from an employee buyback. For founders and job seekers, the useful question is not whether a startup is a unicorn but how recent its last priced round was and who led it. If you are weighing an offer from one of these companies, our AI and ML jobs board lists roles from official careers pages.
