For most startup marketing teams in 2026, the best AI tools are the ones built into software you already pay for: a general assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) for drafting, an SEO suite that now tracks AI search visibility (Semrush, Ahrefs or Surfer), the AI campaign types inside Google Ads and Meta, a scheduler with an AI assistant (Buffer or Hootsuite), and one video tool (Descript or HeyGen). Below we explain what each one does, what it costs on the vendor’s own pricing page as of 4 October 2026, and which to buy first.

How we compiled this list: We built it from each vendor’s official documentation and pricing pages and from public reviews, as checked on 7 October 2026. We did not test these tools hands-on for this article. Prices and features change often, so confirm details on the vendor’s site before you buy. See our editorial policy and advertising disclosure.

Key takeaways

  • You can build a capable AI marketing stack for under $100 a month: a $20 assistant, Buffer from $5 per channel, and the AI features already built into Google Ads, Meta and Google Analytics.
  • SEO tools now track how often your brand appears in AI answers. Semrush includes AI visibility in all paid plans, and Ahrefs and Surfer sell it as Brand Radar AI and AI Tracker.
  • Dedicated AI writers such as Jasper are worth it mainly when several people need a shared brand voice and approved company knowledge.
  • All prices are from vendor pages in October 2026 and vary by region, currency and billing period. There are no affiliate links in this article.

How we chose these tools

We covered the five jobs a startup marketing team actually does: content, SEO, paid ads, social and analytics, plus video. For each job we picked tools that meet five tests. Their AI features are shipped and usable now, not announced. Pricing is published, or the AI is included in a product you already use. There is a free or low entry tier suitable for a team of one to five. They integrate with common stacks such as Google, Meta, HubSpot and Shopify. And they’re sold globally, so a founder in India, the UK or Canada can sign up directly.

Prices are from each vendor’s page on 4 October 2026, in US dollars unless noted. Annual billing is usually cheaper, and taxes such as GST or VAT are extra. We have no affiliate or paid relationship with any vendor here.

Content and copywriting

ChatGPT and Claude

For a small team, a general assistant does most first drafts, research summaries and repurposing (turning a webinar into a blog post, an email and five social posts). OpenAI lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month, with a Go plan at $8 and a free tier. Anthropic lists Claude Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually. For teams, both sell business plans with admin controls. Start here before you buy a specialist writer.

Jasper

Jasper is built for marketing teams rather than individuals. Its Pro plan costs $59 per seat per month billed yearly ($69 monthly) and includes two brand voices, five knowledge assets and agents for core marketing workflows. The custom-priced Business plan adds unlimited brand voices, custom agents and work on GEO (generative engine optimisation) and translation. It earns its price when several writers or agencies need to sound like one company and draw on the same approved facts.

SEO and AI search visibility

The biggest change in SEO tools this year is that they measure AI answers as well as Google rankings. If buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews about your category, you need to know whether your brand is mentioned.

Semrush

Semrush offers a free plan, then an SEO plan at $139 a month ($117.33 a month billed annually) and a Starter “SEO + AI Search” plan at $199 a month. According to its pricing page, AI visibility tracking across Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other platforms is included in all paid tiers. Extra users start at $45 a month.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs has a free tier and a $29-a-month Starter plan for basic keyword and competitor research. Its full plans are Lite at $129, Standard at $249 and Advanced at $449 a month. AI features are sold as add-ons: Brand Radar AI, which researches brand mentions across Ahrefs’ database of prompts, starts at $199 a month, and the Content Kit with AI Content Helper and Grader starts at $99 a month. That makes Ahrefs strong for research but more expensive if you want the AI extras.

Surfer

Surfer focuses on writing content that ranks. Its Content Editor scores drafts against top results and includes an AI writing assistant, and its AI Tracker monitors brand visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and Perplexity. The Discovery plan is $49 a month and Standard $99 a month, both billed yearly.

Before buying third-party ad tools, use the AI built into the ad platforms. Google’s AI Max for Search campaigns expands matching beyond your keywords, rewrites headlines and descriptions to suit each search, and can send people to the most relevant page on your site. Google’s help centre says advertisers who turn it on typically see 14% more conversions or conversion value at a similar cost per acquisition or return on ad spend. That is Google’s own internal figure, so test it with a controlled experiment. Meta’s Advantage+ suite automates audience targeting, placements, budget and creative variations across Facebook and Instagram, with dedicated campaign types for sales, app installs and leads. Both cost nothing extra; you pay for the media. The catch is less control, so keep brand-safety exclusions and conversion tracking tight.

Social media

Buffer

Buffer is the simplest choice for founders running a few channels. The free plan includes 10 scheduled posts per channel and the AI Assistant. Essentials costs $5 per channel per month ($60 a year) and Team $10, and both include unlimited AI reply suggestions.

Hootsuite

Hootsuite suits teams with many accounts, approvals and social listening needs. It lists Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user per month, billed annually, with a 14-day trial. Its plans include AI that drafts posts and images, and Professional adds AI-powered smart replies and trend forecasting.

Email, analytics and video

HubSpot Marketing Hub

HubSpot’s free tools cover two users, and Starter costs $7 per seat per month on annual billing with 1,000 marketing contacts. The jump to Professional is steep: from $800 a month with three core seats, plus a $3,000 one-time onboarding fee. Professional and Enterprise include a Content Agent (in beta) that drafts blog posts, social posts and landing pages, and AI usage draws on monthly HubSpot Credits.

Mailchimp

Mailchimp’s free plan covers up to 250 contacts. Its generative AI features, branded Intuit Assist, come at no extra cost on the Standard and Premium plans in selected countries but aren’t included in Essentials. Mailchimp shows prices in local currency and by contact count, and when we checked from India it was running a 50%-off introductory offer, so compare your own quote.

Google Analytics 4

GA4’s Analytics Insights uses machine learning to flag unusual changes and emerging trends in your data automatically, and lets you set up to 50 custom insight rules per property. It’s free and often ignored. Switch on alerts for sudden drops in conversions or traffic before you pay for a separate analytics tool.

Descript

Descript lets you edit video by editing the transcript, and its AI co-editor, Underlord, makes edits from prompts. AI credits power features such as Studio Sound, filler-word removal and eye contact. There’s a free plan. Hobbyist costs $16 a month billed annually ($24 monthly), and Creator $24 billed annually ($35 monthly). It suits founder-led podcasts, webinars and product demos.

HeyGen

HeyGen creates videos with AI avatars and translates them. The free plan allows three videos a month of up to one minute. Creator costs $29 a month ($24 billed annually) and Pro $49, and paid plans cover 175 languages and dialects. It’s useful for localising product explainers for several markets, but get consent before cloning anyone’s face or voice and label synthetic video where platforms require it.

Bottom line: what to buy first

Solo marketer or founder doing marketing: one $20 assistant, Buffer’s free or Essentials plan, GA4 Insights switched on, and Google and Meta’s AI campaign types. Add Ahrefs Starter at $29 if search matters to you. Team of three to five: add Semrush or Surfer to track AI visibility, Descript for video, and HubSpot Starter if you need email and a CRM together. Larger team with agencies: consider Jasper for brand control and Hootsuite for approvals. Whatever you buy, a human should fact-check and edit AI drafts before publishing, because generic AI text rarely ranks or converts on its own. FAQ

What is the best free AI tool for marketing?

Free tiers of ChatGPT or Claude cover drafting, and Google Analytics 4 Insights, Buffer’s free plan, Semrush’s free plan and Mailchimp’s free plan (up to 250 contacts) cover analytics, social, SEO checks and email at no cost, as of October 2026.

Is Jasper better than ChatGPT for marketing?

For one person, a $20 general assistant usually does the job. Jasper adds shared brand voices, knowledge assets and marketing-specific agents, which matter more when a team or agency produces content together.

Which SEO tool tracks visibility in ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

Semrush includes AI visibility tracking in its paid plans, Surfer offers an AI Tracker, and Ahrefs sells Brand Radar AI from $199 a month, according to their pricing pages.

Do Google AI Max and Meta Advantage+ cost extra?

No. They are campaign settings inside Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager, and you pay only for your ad spend.

Can AI-written content rank on Google?

It can, if it is accurate, original and useful to readers. Mass-produced, unedited AI content is risky, so keep a human editor in the loop.
