Ribbon Health was a US healthcare data company founded in 2016. It built a database and API of US healthcare providers: which doctors practise where, which insurance plans they accept, their specialties and how to reach them. Health insurers, provider groups and digital health companies used Ribbon to power ‘find a doctor’ tools and to keep their provider directories accurate, a long-running problem in US healthcare. Fierce Healthcare reported that Ribbon had more than 50 customers and that its API supported provider searches used by 20 to 25 million people a year. Its backers included General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz, BoxGroup and Rock Health.
On 8 January 2025 H1, a healthcare data company whose customers had mainly been life-sciences firms, announced that it had acquired Ribbon Health. The agreement was signed on 12 December 2024 and paid in a mix of cash and stock; the price was not disclosed. H1 said Ribbon’s platform would become part of its product family as H1 for Health Plans & Digital Health, giving insurers, providers and digital health companies accurate, real-time provider data. Ribbon’s cofounder and chief executive, Nate Maslak, said combining Ribbon’s provider data and software with H1’s clinical insights would help people get the best possible care. In the same announcement H1 added former FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn to its board.
Ribbon’s own website no longer loads. The product continues under H1’s name, so this listing points to H1. H1 does not publish prices for its health-plan products; buyers request a demo. Existing Ribbon API customers should check their contracts and documentation with H1, since the product name and owner have changed.
