FlexChords is a web app for guitarists. Paste a YouTube link or upload an audio file (WAV, MP3, M4A or FLAC) and it detects the chords, the key and the tempo, then shows the chords in time with the song so you can play along. A timeline lets you jump to any part of the song, and a chord editor lets you change a chord, move its start or end, split or delete it, with undo and redo. You can export the chords as timestamped labels for Audacity, Reaper and other audio editors.
The maker says a deep-learning model predicts the chords and a separate music-theory smoothing step removes the rapid, glitchy chord changes raw models tend to produce. Songs other people have already analysed sit in a public catalogue you can play along to for free, and a free account gets five new analyses a month.
FlexChords was built by Amit S Namboothiry, who describes himself as a guitarist, and launched on Product Hunt on 4 October 2026, finishing #20 for the day with 69 upvotes.
We have not tested FlexChords ourselves. This page brings together its official site, its Product Hunt page and the official pages of comparable tools, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use FlexChords for
- Learning a song from its YouTube video with the chords scrolling in time
- Working out the key and tempo of a track before a jam or a cover
- Fixing a detected chord sheet by hand on the timeline
- Exporting chord labels into Audacity or a DAW for practice or arranging
The launch story
Amit S Namboothiry says he built FlexChords out of two frustrations as a guitarist: chord charts for YouTube songs that were in the wrong key or heavily simplified, and chord-detection sites that put play-along, tempo and transposing tools behind subscriptions.
His focus at launch was accuracy. Raw machine-learning chord models jitter between chords, he wrote, so FlexChords adds a rule-based music-theory layer that smooths those glitches out and takes the song's key into account. He called the product a work in progress, said MIDI export was coming, and asked users for feedback on chord accuracy.

What users liked, asked and criticised
- Accuracy across most songs one tester tried, including correct key detection
- Chords that flip between major and minor on blues-style songs (an E and Em back-and-forth on ZZ Top's "Legs")
- US phone numbers formatted wrongly at sign-in (the maker said a fix was coming)
I tried it on a few songs and it was pretty good in most cases.
It detected the key correctly (E) but the chord progression "ping-ponged" between E and Em.

Frequently asked questions
Is FlexChords free?
Yes, for now. A free account gets five new song analyses a month, and songs already in the catalogue can be played along to without using any. No paid plan has been priced publicly.
What can I upload?
A YouTube link, or an audio file in WAV, MP3, M4A or FLAC format.
How accurate are the chords?
We have not measured it. One early tester on Product Hunt found it good on most songs but saw it switch between E and Em on a blues track; the maker said he would work on those transitions. You can correct any chord in the editor.
Can I export the chords?
Yes, as timestamped labels for Audacity, Reaper and other audio editors. The maker said MIDI export was coming soon at launch; we did not find it in the app on 14 October 2026.
Can it transpose a song or slow it down?
We did not find transposition or playback-speed controls in the app on 14 October 2026, although the site's description mentions them.
