Founder Q&A
In the founder's words
Virat Kumar Sen, Founder & CEO
Why did you build it?
I saw the problem firsthand in an HVAC business. Work would get completed, but payments were delayed, and important updates, approvals, and commitments were scattered across WhatsApp and calls. I wanted to build something that helps businesses keep proper project records from day one and makes payment follow-ups easier. That's how BucksBuddy started.
Who is it for, and what problem does it solve for them?
BucksBuddy is built for MSMEs, especially contractors, HVAC firms, and project-based service businesses. They often manage site updates, photos, approvals, invoices, and payment commitments across different tools. BucksBuddy brings project documentation, site diaries, progress tracking, receivables, and payment follow-ups into one platform, with Emaa helping owners understand what needs attention.
What was the hardest moment so far, and what did you do?
The hardest part was turning a real-world problem into a working product with limited resources. Building features was only one part; making different workflows work together reliably was another. I kept learning, using AI-assisted development tools, testing the product, and improving it step by step. It taught me that building a startup means solving problems continuously, not just writing code.
How did you get your first users or customers?
I started by using my existing business connections and speaking with people familiar with the problems contractors face. The initial problem came from an HVAC business I knew, which helped me understand the workflow firsthand. I then built BucksBuddy and began testing it with pilot users. We currently have 12 pilot users, but no paying customers yet.
One piece of advice for other founders?
Don't wait until you have everything figured out. Start with what you have, learn as you go, and keep showing up even when things aren't working out. You'll figure out more by building than by waiting for the perfect moment.
