Pass Designer is a Mac app from Apple for designing Apple Wallet passes, such as boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, store cards and membership cards. You start from one of Apple’s templates or your own design, and a live preview shows the pass exactly as it will appear on iPhone and Apple Watch, using the same rendering as iOS and watchOS.
It covers six pass styles, including the new poster-style generic pass, and generates eight barcode types, from QR and PDF417 to EAN-13. You can edit colours and fields, add images at the sizes each pass needs, and edit the semantic tags that let Siri Suggestions, Calendar and Maps understand a boarding pass or event ticket. It validates your pass as you work, flagging missing keys, and can build a backward-compatible version for older iOS releases.
Pass Designer saves a pass template, not a finished pass. To give a pass to customers, you sign it with an Apple-issued certificate from an Apple developer account, using Apple’s Pass Builder package or by hand. Apple introduced Pass Designer at WWDC26 and still labels it a beta. It appeared on Product Hunt on 4 October 2026, under Apple’s product page, with 112 upvotes.
We have not tested Pass Designer ourselves. This page brings together Apple’s product page, documentation and WWDC session, its Product Hunt listing and the official pages of comparable services, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use Pass Designer for
- Designing a boarding pass, event ticket, coupon, store card or membership card for Apple Wallet
- Previewing exactly how a pass will look on iPhone and Apple Watch before you ship it
- Adding semantic tags so Siri Suggestions, Calendar and Maps can use a boarding pass or ticket
- Checking a pass for missing or unexpected fields before signing it
Pass Designer pricing
Pass Designer is a free download from Apple's developer site. Apple does not state a price for the tool.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Beta | Free | Sign in with an Apple Account; if prompted, complete the free registration and accept the Apple Developer Agreement |
Distributing real passes requires signing them with an Apple-issued certificate tied to an Apple developer account. Creating that certificate needs the Account Holder or Admin role. Check Apple's developer programme page for membership costs.
Pass Designer saves a .pkpasstemplate bundle, which is not a signed pass. Signing is done with Apple's Pass Builder package or manually.
