NotchMate is a Mac app that puts Notchy, a small furry monster, in your MacBook’s notch. He peeks out, waves when you unlock your Mac, puts on glasses during a focus timer and stays quiet when you’re busy. Hover over or click the notch and it opens into a panel with a music player for Spotify and Apple Music, a full-screen “Zen” mode with synced lyrics or ambient visuals, weather, today’s calendar, a Pomodoro timer, clipboard history, a file shelf, window snapping and a camera mirror.
Since its Halloween update you can pick from 24 creatures, and Notchy’s colour and fur can be changed or switched off. It runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later and draws a notch on Macs that don’t have one. It is available in nine languages and asks for each permission only when you turn on the feature that needs it.
NotchMate is made by Bora Can Baltaci, a solo developer, and launched on Product Hunt on 4 October 2026, finishing #32 for the day with 62 upvotes.
We have not tested NotchMate ourselves. This page brings together its official site, its Product Hunt page and the official pages of the products it is compared with, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use NotchMate for
- Controlling Spotify or Apple Music from the notch without switching apps
- Running a Pomodoro focus timer with a visible cue in the notch
- Keeping recent screenshots and copied items in a clipboard history, and parking files on a shelf to drag or AirDrop later
- Snapping windows into halves, quarters or thirds
- Checking your camera before a call with the built-in mirror
The launch story
Bora Can Baltaci says that when he got a MacBook he looked for something that would make the notch fun. He found apps that turn it into a widget bar and thought they were fine, but none felt alive or had any personality, so he spent most of his evenings for several months building his own.
The result puts a creature in the notch and opens into a panel with the tools he says he uses every day: music, synced lyrics, weather, calendar, a focus timer, clipboard history, a file shelf, window snapping, a camera mirror and an optional effect that folds the desktop as you close the lid. He called it his first real launch and asked for honest feedback, especially about anything that annoys people.

NotchMate pricing
NotchMate has two plans. Payments go through Paddle, which shows totals for your country including estimated tax, so the amount you see may differ from the US dollar prices below.
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial | $0 for 3 days | Every feature, no card and no email. Notchy warns you a day before it ends |
| Monthly | $3.99/month | Cancel any time; updates while you're subscribed |
| Lifetime | $14.99 once | One payment; personal licence with updates for this major version |
Refunds: a full refund within 14 days of the charge if the app won't run on a supported Mac, the licence doesn't arrive, or you're not satisfied (refund policy).
The pricing card says the licence covers Macs you own, while the privacy policy says activation binds the key to one Mac. Check with the developer if you plan to use several Macs.
Promo codes can be entered at the Paddle checkout.

NotchMate alternatives and how they compare
Picked from Product Hunt's alternatives list. Prices come from each product's own page, checked on 14 October 2026. Review scores are Product Hunt users' own.
| Product | What it is | Starts at | Reviews | How it differs from NotchMate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NotchMate this page | Mac app that puts an animated creature in the notch and turns it into a panel for music, lyrics, clipboard and files | 3-day free trial, then $3.99/month or $14.99 once | No reviews yet | — |
| TheBoringNotch | Open-source notch app with a music player, calendar, file shelf with AirDrop and a replacement for macOS's volume and brightness pop-ups | Free (GPL-3.0 open source) | 4.0 (1 on Product Hunt) | Free and open source, but it has no creature or Zen lyrics mode, and its README says the build isn't signed, so macOS warns you on first launch. |
| Sleeve | Desktop widget that shows and controls what's playing in Apple Music, Spotify and Doppler | $5.99 once, no in-app purchases | 5.0 (7 on Product Hunt) | Covers music only and sits on the desktop rather than in the notch. Sleeve 3 needs macOS 26 Tahoe. |
| DynamicLake | Dynamic Island-style notch app for Mac with plugins | See its pricing page | 5.0 (1 on Product Hunt) | A utility-first notch app with a plugin system; it has no character in the notch. Its prices only load in the browser, so we could not record them. |
Product Hunt also lists NotchNook, Bartender 5, Itsycal, Fide Island, NotchPop, Isly and Netra. We left NotchNook out of the comparison because its developer's site, lo.cafe, currently carries a statement about a dispute over control of the app and says some users lost access.
