Capybara Court is a phone app for settling small, everyday arguments, such as who does the dishes or why the fan stayed on all night. Two people answer the same four questions about the dispute: what happened, what bothered them most, what the other person should do and what their own part was. Each side is sealed as soon as it is written, so neither person can read the other’s answers. Only the judge, a cartoon capybara called Cappy, reads both.
The ruling opens on both phones at the same time. Cappy names what the quarrel was really about, splits the fault (never 100 to 0) and suggests one small, silly thing to do together. If you have nobody to summon, you can post your side to a public gallery with names covered and let strangers weigh in. Everything shreds itself 30 days after filing. There are no accounts, no ads and no trackers, and it works in English and Korean. Rulings are written by Google’s Gemini model on Vertex AI.
Capybara Court is made by Jungsik Byun, a solo developer in Korea. It launched on Product Hunt on 4 October 2026 and finished #12 for the day with 94 upvotes. It is available on iPhone, Android and the web, and is free while in beta.
We have not tested Capybara Court ourselves. This page brings together its official site and privacy policy, its Product Hunt page and the official pages of comparable apps, and says where each fact comes from.
What people use Capybara Court for
- Settling a small household argument with a partner or flatmate without either side feeling ganged up on
- Getting each person's side down in writing before talking it through
- Posting a petty grievance anonymously and seeing what strangers think
- A light-hearted way to raise something that keeps annoying you
The launch story
Jungsik Byun, a solo developer working from Korea, says small arguments are awkward to raise and pile up when you let them go. He wanted a place where both people say their piece and a gentle third party sorts it out, so he built a courthouse for arguments too small for anywhere else.
He explained that the sealing is enforced by a database rule rather than a promise: each phone is refused permission to read the other's words, and only the judge on the server reads both. The server keeps the fault split between 25 and 75, and when a dispute reads like a real grievance rather than a petty one, Cappy writes a settlement with no winner instead of a verdict.
He was also clear about limits. Cappy is a cartoon, not a lawyer, doctor or counsellor, and if the court sees signs of harm, abuse or something urgent, it gives no verdict, publishes nothing and points to real help.

Frequently asked questions
Is Capybara Court free?
Yes, while it is in beta. No price for after the beta has been published.
Can the other person read what I wrote?
No. Each side is sealed when it is written; the maker says a database rule stops each phone reading the other's words, and only the AI judge reads both.
How long can my answers be?
Each person answers four questions of up to 500 characters, about a page per side, according to the maker.
Why does the judge never give 100% of the blame to one person?
The maker says this is deliberate. A 75 to 25 split already says the fight is mostly one person's, and the judge only hears two people's own versions, so a fuller split would claim more certainty than it has.
What happens to my data?
Cases are deleted 30 days after filing, and withdrawing a case discards it at once. Rulings are made with Google's Gemini on Vertex AI, which the privacy policy says is not used for training. There is no email, phone number or password; crash reports are kept for 90 days.
Is it available outside Korea on Android?
Yes. The maker said on Product Hunt that the Android app was first released only in Korea and that he opened it to every country after launch.
Who is it for?
People aged 13 and over, according to the privacy policy; the public gallery is meant for adults.
