The most active venture capital (VC) firms backing Indian startups in 2026 are Accel,
Peak XV Partners and 3one4 Capital by deal count, with Zerodha’s Rainmatter, Z47,
Antler and IvyCap Ventures close behind, according to Inc42’s quarterly investor
rankings. The firms with the most new money to deploy include Peak XV, Accel, Nexus
and Elevation, all of which raised or announced India funds between December 2025
and September 2026.

This guide explains how we built the list, what each firm backs and at which stage,
the size of its latest fund, its named 2026 deals, and how founders should approach
them. It was updated on 15 October 2026, ten days after Inc42 published its Q3 2026
ranking.

## Key takeaways

 * Inc42 ranked Peak XV (16 deals) and Accel (13) as the most active equity VC firms
in Q1 2026; Accel made 21 deals in the first half of the year.
 * 3one4 Capital was the most active early-stage equity VC in Q3 2026 with 19 deals,
   according to Inc42.
 * Fresh funds dated 2026 include Peak XV’s $1.3 billion across three funds, Accel’s
$550 million India fund and Elevation’s $500 million ninth India fund.
 * Money is flowing to fewer companies: Tracxn data reported by Outlook Business
shows Indian tech firms raised $10.3 billion in January to September 2026, across
far fewer rounds than a year earlier.
 * Most of these firms write their first cheques at seed or Series A, so the pitch
has to prove a sharp problem, a credible team and a reason the timing is right.

## How we built this list

We started with deal counts, not reputation. Inc42 publishes a ranking of the most
active startup investors every quarter, based on its Indian Tech Startup Funding
Report and its deal database. We used three editions: [Q1 2026](https://inc42.com/buzz/meet-the-top-10-indian-startup-investors-of-q1-2026/)(
published 4 April 2026), [H1 2026](https://inc42.com/?p=563488) (4 July 2026) and
[Q3 2026](https://inc42.com/buzz/meet-the-most-active-startup-investors-of-q3-2026/)(
5 October 2026).

Those rankings mix venture debt lenders (Stride Ventures, Alteria Capital, BlackSoil,
InnoVen Capital), angel networks and accelerators with equity VCs. Stride Ventures
topped the overall table in all three editions, with 38 deals in Q1, 61 in H1 and
38 in Q3, according to Inc42. Because debt is a different product from equity, we
removed lenders, angel networks and accelerator programmes and kept equity VC firms
only.

Deal counts reward firms that write many small cheques, so we added a second test:
the size and date of each firm’s most recent dedicated India fund, taken from the
firm’s own announcement or from reputable outlets such as TechCrunch, Entrackr,
YourStory and DealStreetAsia. Firms below are grouped accordingly. Where we could
not find a dated, sourced figure, we say so rather than guess. Deal names come from
the rankings or the firms’ own posts; Inc42 did not publish round sizes for most
of them.

## The market in 2026: more money, fewer deals

Indian tech companies raised $10.3 billion between January and September 2026, about
7% more than a year earlier, according to [Outlook Business’s report on Tracxn data](https://www.outlookbusiness.com/news/india-tech-funding-rises-7-to-103-billion-in-jan-sep-2026).
The number of rounds fell sharply over the same period, which means capital is concentrating
in fewer companies.

Inc42’s quarterly figures tell the same story. Startups raised $2.3 billion across
271 deals in Q1 2026, 26% less than a year before, and Inc42 noted that the quarter
had no round of $100 million or more. In Q3 2026 funding rose 5% to $2.2 billion,
while the deal count fell 13% to 210. For founders, that means firms are still writing
cheques but are pickier. You can follow individual rounds on our [funding tracker](https://100xfounder.com/funding-tracker/).

## The most active VC firms by 2026 deal count

### 1. Accel

**Sectors:** AI, consumer internet, fintech and advanced manufacturing, according
to [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/11/accel-closes-oversubscribed-550m-india-fund-within-weeks-19-months-after-its-last/).**
Latest fund:** a $550 million India fund, reported on 11 August 2026 as oversubscribed
and closed within weeks. TechCrunch said Accel expects to start investing from it
in 2027 and will keep using its earlier $650 million India fund (announced in 2022)
until then.

**2026 activity:** 13 deals in Q1 and 21 in H1 2026, according to Inc42. Named portfolio
companies in those rankings include Bounce, Dognosis and EtherealX (Q1), plus Rapido,
FirstClub and Swish (H1).

### 2. Peak XV Partners

**Stage:** seed through growth. **Sectors:** mainly AI, fintech and consumer. **
Latest funds:** $1.3 billion across an India seed fund, an India venture fund and
an Asia-Pacific fund, announced in February 2026, according to [Entrepreneur](https://apac.entrepreneur.com/news-and-trends/peak-xv-raises-usd-13-bn-across-new-india-and-apac-funds/502889).
These are the firm’s first funds since it separated from Sequoia Capital in 2023.

**2026 activity:** Peak XV was the most active equity VC firm in Q1 2026 with 16
deals, according to Inc42, which named Agrani Labs, BambooBox and C2i Semiconductors
among them.

### 3. 3one4 Capital

**Stage:** seed and Series A. **Sectors:** AI and SaaS, enterprise and manufacturing
automation, fintech, deeptech and consumer internet. **Latest fund:** Fund IV closed
at $200 million in May 2023, according to [Business Standard](https://www.business-standard.com/companies/news/early-stage-vc-firm-3one4-capital-closes-its-fourth-fund-at-200-mn-123050800223_1.html).
On 11 May 2026, [Inc42 reported](https://inc42.com/buzz/3one4-capitals-fund-v-in-the-works-eyes-225-mn-corpus/)
that Fund V is in the works with a likely target of $225 million and a proposed
$20 million commitment from the IFC, the World Bank’s private-sector arm. Inc42
said Fund IV’s average cheques were $0.5 million to $5 million.

**2026 activity:** 11 deals in Q1 and 19 in Q3, the most of any equity VC that quarter,
according to Inc42. Named companies include Elixiir Foods, Smalle and Unbox Robotics.

### 4. Rainmatter (Zerodha)

**Sectors:** climate, health and fintech-adjacent businesses, judging by the companies
Inc42 lists. Rainmatter is the investment arm of the brokerage Zerodha, so it is
a corporate investor rather than a fund with outside limited partners (LPs); we
could not find a published fund size.

**2026 activity:** 39 deals in H1 2026, third overall, and 16 in Q3, according to
Inc42. Named companies include Karo Sambhav, Polycycl, GreenWorms, SolarSquare and
GalaxEye.

### 5. Z47 (formerly Matrix Partners India)

**Sectors:** fintech and consumer feature heavily among its named 2026 deals. **
Latest fund:** we could not confirm a dated figure for a new fund from a primary
source, so we have left it out.

**2026 activity:** six deals in Q1 2026, according to Inc42, which named Stable
Money and The Whole Truth.

Other equity investors that made Inc42’s 2026 top lists include Antler (14 deals
in Q3), IvyCap Ventures (15 in Q3, including BatX Energies and BotSync), A Junior
VC (13 in Q3) and Finvolve (19 in H1). If you are pre-seed, these smaller-cheque
investors are often a better first call than the large funds.

## Large VC firms with fresh India funds

### 6. Elevation Capital

**Stage:** seed and Series A as the core, according to the firm’s [own fund announcement](https://elevationcapital.com/investing-in-india).**
Sectors:** the firm lists consumer tech, consumer brands, fintech and financial
services, enterprise AI, frontier tech and healthcare. **Latest fund:** $500 million
for its ninth India-focused fund, reported by [DealStreetAsia](https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/elevation-capital-489013/)
on 14 July 2026. Its previous fund, Fund VIII, was $670 million (April 2022).

### 7. Nexus Venture Partners

**Stage:** inception, seed and Series A, with cheques often starting at a few hundred
thousand dollars or around $1 million. **Sectors in India:** consumer, fintech,
logistics and digital infrastructure. **Latest fund:** a $700 million eighth fund,
about half of it reserved for India, according to [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2025/12/04/nexus-isnt-going-all-in-on-ai-keeping-its-new-700m-fund-balanced-with-india-bets)(
4 December 2025). TechCrunch reported that Nexus manages $3.2 billion and has backed
more than 130 companies.

### 8. Lightspeed India

**Stage:** early stage. **Sectors:** AI companies across India and Southeast Asia.**
Latest fund:** Lightspeed India Partners V is targeting $250 million and has about
80% of that committed, according to an investor letter reported by [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/?p=3169287)
on 24 September 2026. That is half the size of its $500 million 2022 fund. The firm
planned to start investing from it within two months.

### 9. Blume Ventures

**Stage:** seed and Series A, with starting cheques of $1.5 million to $5 million.**
Sectors:** consumer, fintech, healthtech and deeptech. **Latest fund:** an initial
close of Fund V at $175 million, with a final close target of $250–275 million by
early 2026, according to [Blume’s own announcement](https://blume.vc/commentaries/we-closed-175-million-of-our-fund-v-target-of-250-275-million-for-the-final-close)(
October 2025). Blume said the fund would back 30–35 startups and named early investments
including Mave Health, Confido Health, Lucira, Ozi and PowerUp Money. We did not
find a confirmed final close.

### 10. Chiratae Ventures

**Stage:** seed, Series A and Series B. **Sectors:** AI, deeptech, healthtech, consumer
tech, fintech, SaaS, climate and spacetech, with an expansion into defence tech
and quantum. **Latest fund:** a second close of Fund V at $150 million on 23 September
2025, with a final close expected by the first quarter of 2026, according to [Chiratae](https://www.chiratae.com/chiratae-ventures-announces-second-close-of-usd-150-million-for-its-fifth-vc-fund-focused-on-early-stage-startups/).
Early Fund V investments include HouseEazy, Pepsales, Mili and Zilo.

### 11. Stellaris Venture Partners

**Stage:** seed and Series A. **Latest fund:** Fund III closed at $300 million in
November 2024, taking its assets under management above $600 million, according
to [YourStory](https://yourstory.com/2024/11/stellaris-venture-partners-closes-fund-mamaearth-zouk-whatfix).
Stellaris said it would back 25–30 startups over three years. Its earlier portfolio
includes Mamaearth, Zouk and Whatfix.

### 12. Prime Venture Partners

**Stage:** early stage, with initial cheques of $2.5 million to $3 million. **Sectors:**
fintech and AI, among others. **Latest fund:** Fund V closed at $100 million in
March 2025, according to [Entrackr](https://entrackr.com/snippets/prime-venture-partners-closes-fifth-fund-at-100-mn-8791705),
and is meant to back 16–18 startups. Its smaller portfolio means each company gets
more partner time, which matters for first-time founders.

**Also worth knowing: Kalaari Capital.** Kalaari backs early-stage companies and
wrote in an [April 2026 post](https://kalaari.com/insights-from-the-fronlines/digantara-raises-50m-in-series-b-2)
that its portfolio company Digantara, a space-surveillance startup, had raised a
$50 million Series B. We could not find a dated figure for a new Kalaari fund.

## How to approach a VC firm in India

Start with fit. Every firm above publishes its stage and sector focus, and most
state a typical first cheque: Blume starts at $1.5 million to $5 million, Prime
at $2.5 million to $3 million, and Nexus often from a few hundred thousand dollars.
Pitching a Series B growth story to a seed fund, or a hardware company to a consumer-
only partner, wastes a meeting on both sides. Check the firm’s recent deals on its
site or on our [startup news](https://100xfounder.com/news/) page to see who leads
which sector.

Next, get the deck right. Sequoia Capital’s widely used [guide to writing a business plan](https://sequoiacap.com/article/writing-a-business-plan/)
lists ten parts: company purpose in one sentence, the problem, the solution, why
now, market potential, competition, business model, team, financials and vision.
Indian VCs reading hundreds of decks a quarter look for the first four quickly,
so put them on the first few slides.

![A founder presenting on stage at an accelerator demo day](https://100xfounder.

### A practical sequence

 * **Shortlist 15–25 firms** whose stage, cheque size and sector match your round,
using their fund announcements and recent deals.
 * **Find the right partner**, not the generic inbox. Most firms list partners by
   sector on their websites.
 * **Ask for a warm introduction** from a founder in that partner’s portfolio, an
angel investor or an accelerator. Accelerator programmes help here: Google’s
startup accelerator counted 20 deals in Inc42’s Q3 2026 list.
 * **Send a short email** with the one-line company purpose, two or three traction
numbers you can verify, the round size and a deck link.
 * **Run the process in a tight window** so that interest from one firm can inform
others, and keep a data room ready for diligence.

Showcasing a product publicly helps too. Founders can list a launch on our [launches page](https://100xfounder.com/launches/),
which investors and early users browse.

## Bottom line

India’s most active equity VCs in 2026 are Accel, Peak XV and 3one4 Capital, while
Elevation, Nexus, Lightspeed and Accel have the newest large pools of capital. With
total funding up but deal counts down, according to Tracxn and Inc42 data, the firms
are concentrating on fewer, stronger companies. Founders who pick firms by stage
and sector, reach the right partner through a warm introduction and lead with a
crisp problem and “why now” give themselves the best chance. This article is for
information only; confirm terms with a qualified legal or financial adviser before
signing a term sheet.

## FAQ

### Which is the most active VC firm in India in 2026?

Among equity VC firms, Peak XV led Inc42’s Q1 2026 ranking with 16 deals, Accel
made 21 deals in H1, and 3one4 Capital led in Q3 with 19. Venture debt firm Stride
Ventures made more deals overall, but it lends rather than buys equity.

### Which Indian VC firms invest at seed stage?

Peak XV (through its new India seed fund), Blume, 3one4, Elevation, Nexus, Stellaris
and Chiratae all list seed among their core stages. Antler and A Junior VC were
among the most active early-stage names in Q3 2026.

### How much do Indian VCs invest in a first round?

It varies by firm. Blume says its starting cheques are $1.5 million to $5 million,
Prime’s are $2.5 million to $3 million, and Nexus often starts at a few hundred
thousand dollars to about $1 million.

### Do I need a warm introduction to pitch an Indian VC?

It is not required, and many firms accept submissions on their websites, but introductions
from portfolio founders or angels usually get faster attention.

### What should a pitch deck include?

Sequoia’s guide lists company purpose, problem, solution, why now, market, competition,
business model, team, financials and vision.
