Virta Health is a virtual medical clinic in the United States that treats type 2
diabetes, prediabetes and obesity. Its approach is nutrition-first: members get
a personalised eating plan, remote monitoring, coaching and medical supervision
through an app, and a medical team adjusts diabetes medication as their numbers
change. Virta says it works with or without GLP-1 drugs and describes its mission
as reversing metabolic disease in one billion people.

Virta’s leadership page names Sami Inkinen as co-founder and chief executive, with
Stephen Phinney, MD, PhD (former chief medical officer) and Jeff Volek, PhD (former
chief science officer) as the other co-founders.

Most members get Virta through an employer or health plan. Its FAQ says there is
no fee to apply, that people covered through an employer-sponsored health plan pay
no treatment cost, and that others may qualify for up to a 60% discount based on
household size and income.

In April 2021 Virta raised $133 million in a Series E led by Tiger Global, which
Fierce Biotech reported valued the company at $2 billion. That came a few months
after a $65 million Series D in December 2020. The company said the money would
fund research, product development and demand from employers, health plans and government
buyers. Outcome figures Virta publishes come from its own research.

This profile is drawn from Virta’s own pages and published reporting. It is not
medical advice. We have not used the service, and nothing here is paid placement.
