Sorare is a fantasy sports game in which players collect officially licensed digital
cards of real athletes and line them up in weekly competitions scored on the athletes’
real-life performances. Cards come in rarities and can be bought, sold and traded;
scarcer cards are tokens on a blockchain, which made Sorare one of the best-known
NFT games. It began with football and added the NBA in 2022, and TechCrunch reported
a licensing deal with England’s Premier League in January 2023.

Sorare is a French company led by cofounder and CEO Nicolas Julia. In September
2021 it raised a $680 million Series B led by SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2 at a $4.3
billion valuation, with Atomico, Bessemer, D1 Capital, Eurazeo, IVP and Liontree
joining Benchmark, Accel and Headline, TechCrunch reported. As the NFT market cooled,
it cut jobs: TechCrunch reported in March 2024 that it had laid off about 13% of
staff, including 22 people in New York, and that it had not raised money since 2021.
In November 2025 The Big Whale reported that Sorare would cut around 35 of roughly
100 jobs and that cofounder and CTO Adrien Montfort was stepping back from daily
operations, and Julia said the company was centralising everything in Paris. The
Big Whale also reported a planned move of Sorare’s cards to the Solana blockchain.

Sorare is free to play with common cards; you pay only if you buy rarer cards in
auctions or from other players, so costs depend on how much you collect.

_We have not used Sorare for this page. It brings together Sorare’s own website
and the reporting linked under Sources, and says where each fact comes from. Nothing
here is paid placement._
