Orasis Pharmaceuticals is an eye care drug company focused on presbyopia, the age-
related loss of near focus. Its product, Qlosi (pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic
solution 0.4%), is a preservative-free prescription eye drop. Ophthalmology Times
explained that it works by narrowing the pupil, creating a pinhole effect that increases
depth of field so close-up text looks sharper. The Qlosi website says one drop in
each eye can be repeated after two to three hours, used daily or as needed up to
twice a day, for an effect that can last up to eight hours.

The US Food and Drug Administration approved Qlosi on the basis of two Phase 3 trials,
NEAR-1 and NEAR-2, which enrolled more than 600 patients; Orasis announced the approval
on 18 October 2023. At the time Elad Kedar was CEO and Paul Smith was president
and chief operating officer, and the company said it expected Qlosi to be available
in the US in the first half of 2024. Orasis’s website now says Qlosi is available
by prescription in the US through the pharmacy service BlinkRx. In 2026 the company
announced that refills had reached 49.1% and that it was focusing on eye care professionals
rather than telehealth, and it said it had filed a new drug application in Australia
for a presbyopia drop called BESKA.

## Pricing

Orasis does not publish Qlosi’s price on its company site. At approval, Smith told
reporters that Qlosi would be a cash-pay product, meaning patients pay directly
rather than through insurance, according to Eyes On Eyecare’s Glance. The Qlosi
website mentions savings offers and a satisfaction guarantee, with terms on the
site.

## Who it suits

Qlosi is for adults with presbyopia who want an alternative to reading glasses for
part of the day, after an eye doctor confirms it is suitable. It is not a cure,
and the label warns about dim vision and care when driving at night.
