MedGenome is an Indian genomics company with headquarters in Bengaluru. Its diagnostics
business offers more than 1,300 genetic tests across areas such as reproductive
health (non-invasive prenatal screening, carrier screening, preimplantation testing),
rare inherited disorders (whole exome and genome sequencing), newborn screening,
neurology, nephrology, cardiology and eye genetics, oncology (hereditary cancer
panels, liquid biopsy and minimal residual disease tests), infectious diseases and
pharmacogenomics. It also offers research services and bioinformatics for single-
cell genomics, genome sequencing, immune profiling and epigenomics. The company
describes its Bengaluru facility as South Asia’s largest CAP-accredited and NABL-
certified genomics sequencing lab, and says it has sequenced more than 600,000 exomes
and genomes and serves more than 600 locations in India and about 50 countries.

Inc42 reported that Sam Santhosh founded MedGenome in 2013 and was its chief executive
in 2020, and that the company had built what it called the largest database of South
Asian genome variants. MedGenome’s leadership page now lists VL Ramprasad as CEO,
Mahesh Pratapneni as co-founder and director, and Dr Amit Kakar as chairman, with
Somasekar Seshagiri heading US operations.

## Funding

In April 2020 MedGenome raised $55 million in a round led by LeapFrog Investments,
with existing investors Sequoia Capital and Sofina, Inc42 reported, citing The Economic
Times. GenomeWeb had reported a $4 million round in its early years.

## Pricing

MedGenome does not publish a price list for its tests on its website. Tests are
ordered through doctors and hospitals, and prices are quoted by MedGenome or the
referring clinic.

## Who it suits

MedGenome suits clinicians and hospitals in India and nearby regions that need genetic
testing, and researchers and pharmaceutical companies that need sequencing and bioinformatics.
Patients usually access its tests through a doctor’s referral rather than directly.
