Blenny is a free, open-source app that tidies the Mac menu bar. It gives each menu
bar app one of three places. Visible apps (the Surface, in the site’s fish theme)
always show. Revealable apps (the Reef) appear when you click Blenny’s fish icon.
Hidden apps (the Deep) never show, though they keep running. You arrange groups
and order in a draft, apply the changes when you’re ready, and can undo the last
change. Apps with several icons move together.

Blenny’s main promise is how it does this. It never moves your pointer, clicks for
you or fakes a drag, and it doesn’t need Screen Recording permission. To set the
order it needs the Device Control permission and access to macOS’s menu bar layout
file. It is a small native app of about 6 MB, built only for macOS 27 on Apple silicon,
and its updates are checked against the developer’s own signing key and never install
unattended.

The app is self-signed rather than notarized by Apple, so macOS may ask you to allow
it in Privacy & Security. Its README lists known limits openly, including that multiple
displays are untested. Blenny is published under the Apache-2.0 licence by the developer
known as fish (f-is-h on GitHub) and launched on Product Hunt on 4 October 2026,
finishing #28 for the day with 63 upvotes.

_We have not tested Blenny ourselves. This page brings together its official site,
its GitHub README and releases, its Product Hunt page and the official pages of
comparable apps, and says where each fact comes from._
