Bengaluru-based Emversity, which trains university students for jobs in healthcare
and hospitality, raised a $30 million (₹271 crore) Series A in January 2026 led
by Premji Invest, with Lightspeed and Z47 also investing, according to [Z47’s announcement](https://www.z47.com/news/emversity-raises-30-million-to-build-indias-employability-infrastructure-across-universities).
The round valued the company at about $120 million after the money, double its valuation
in April 2025, [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/01/14/indias-emversity-doubles-valuation-as-it-scales-workers-ai-cant-replace/)
reported, citing sources.

Emversity was started in 2023 by Vivek Sinha, a former chief operating officer of
Unacademy. It works inside existing universities, adding job-focused training to
degree programmes for roles such as nurse, physiotherapist, lab technician and hotel
staff. This article covers the round, how the model works, what the company has
disclosed since, and the open questions.

## Key takeaways

 * Premji Invest led a $30 million Series A, taking Emversity’s total funding to
   $46 million.
 * TechCrunch reported a post-money valuation of about $120 million, up from about
   $60 million in April 2025.
 * At the time of the round, Emversity worked with 23 universities across 40 campuses
   and had trained about 4,500 learners and placed 800, according to TechCrunch.
 * It plans to reach 200 campuses and add engineering, procurement and construction(
   EPC) and manufacturing training.
 * In March 2026, it bought back ₹6.5 crore of employee stock options from 20 early
   staff, according to [Inc42](https://inc42.com/buzz/emversity-buys-back-%E2%82%B96-5-cr-esops-from-20-employees/).

## The round

The Series A was announced on 14 and 15 January 2026. Premji Invest led it, advised
by law firm [Khaitan & Co](https://www.khaitanco.com/firm-matter/premji-invest-investment-in-emversity-(beyond-odds-technologies-private-limited)),
which handled due diligence and the deal documents. Existing investors Lightspeed
and Z47, the firm formerly called Matrix Partners India, also took part, according
to [Entrackr](https://entrackr.com/news/emversity-raises-30-mn-in-series-a-led-by-premji-invest-10999643).

It was Emversity’s third round in under two years. According to Entrackr:

 * **Seed, April 2024:** $11 million led by Matrix Partners India (now Z47) and
   Lightspeed.
 * **Pre-Series A:** $5 million led by Lightspeed and Z47, with Alteria Capital
   and InnoVen Capital.
 * **Series A, January 2026:** $30 million led by Premji Invest.

That adds up to the $46 million total that Emversity and its investors have cited.

### What the investors said

Kaveesh Chawla of Premji Invest said Emversity’s “student-centric approach” and
links with industry partners put it in a good position to close the gap between
education and jobs, according to Z47. Harsha Kumar of Lightspeed called it “a disciplined,
outcomes-led platform”. Sinha said India had added a lot of higher-education capacity
over the past decade, but the link between education and employability had not kept
pace.

## How Emversity’s model works

Emversity does not run its own university. It partners with existing universities
to embed industry-designed courses, work-integrated training and technology into
their degree programmes, according to [Z47](https://www.z47.com/news/emversity-raises-30-million-to-build-indias-employability-infrastructure-across-universities).
It also runs its own skill centres for shorter certificate courses. TechCrunch reported
that in 2025, revenue was split roughly evenly between university programmes and
skill-centre certifications.

The company focuses on what TechCrunch called “grey-collar” jobs: skilled, hands-
on roles that are hard to automate. Sinha’s example was intensive care, where a
hospital needs a nurse for every two ICU beds regardless of how much paperwork AI
takes over.

Employers help design the training and hire graduates. Z47’s announcement listed
Fortis Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals, Aster and KIMS in healthcare, and IHCL (the
Taj group) and Lemon Tree Hotels in hospitality.

### Programmes and fees

Emversity’s [website](https://www.emversity.com/), checked on 4 October 2026, lists
three main tracks. Fees and salary ranges are the company’s own figures; it says
salaries are indicative and set by employers, and placements are not guaranteed.

  | Track | What it is | Duration | Total fee | Stated salary range |
   |  SPRINT |  NSDC-certified skill course (for example, emergency medical technician or phlebotomy) at Emversity centres |  1 year |  ₹0.8 lakh to ₹1.8 lakh |  ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 a month |
 |  EDGE |  Four-year degree awarded by a partner university, with 18 healthcare specialisations |  4 years |  ₹7.2 lakh |  ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 a month |
 |  GATEWAY |  Hospitality diploma with training in Goa and 12 months abroad |  24 months |  ₹5 lakh |  ₹1 lakh to ₹1.2 lakh a month |

For readers outside India: 1 lakh is 100,000 rupees and 1 crore is 10 million. NSDC
is the National Skill Development Corporation, which certifies vocational courses.

## The numbers Emversity has disclosed

Emversity is private and has disclosed only selected figures. At the time of the
round, TechCrunch reported:

 * 23 partner universities and more than 40 campus locations;
 * about 4,500 learners trained and 800 placed;
 * about 700 employees, including 200 to 250 trainers;
 * gross margins of about 80%, with customer acquisition costs below 10% of revenue;
   and
 * more than 350,000 enquiries in 2025 to its career-counselling platform, which
   contributed over 20% of revenue.

By March 2026, Inc42 reported that Emversity had more than 700 employees in 60-plus
locations across 24 states. Its website now claims 30+ partner universities, 60+
locations and a 98% placement rate for graduating batches. That last figure is a
company claim that we could not independently verify. Emversity has not published
audited revenue or profit figures in the sources we reviewed, so we do not report
any.

## Where the money goes

According to Z47 and Entrackr, Emversity plans to:

 * expand from about 40 campuses to more than 200, which TechCrunch reported as
   a two-year goal;
 * deepen its healthcare and hospitality programmes;
 * add new verticals in EPC and manufacturing; and
 * strengthen its technology platform.

Inc42’s March report described a larger ambition of 400 campuses over two and a
half years. The company is also looking at placing Indian-trained healthcare workers
abroad, in countries with ageing populations such as Japan and Germany, though it
gave TechCrunch no timeline. Its website already markets an international hospitality
track and lists healthcare salary ranges for Germany and the US.

## The ESOP buyback

Two months after the round, Emversity bought back ₹6.5 crore of vested employee
stock options from 20 employees, according to [Inc42](https://inc42.com/buzz/emversity-buys-back-%E2%82%B96-5-cr-esops-from-20-employees/).
Staff who joined on or before 31 January 2024 could sell up to 70% of their vested
options at the current valuation, without a discount. Chief human resources officer
Megha Lal said the company preferred to reward early employees now rather than wait
for a secondary sale or IPO that might be years away.

This is an early buyback for a company founded in 2023. It suggests the Series A
left Emversity with enough cash to spare some for staff liquidity, and it is a useful
signal for job seekers weighing equity offers from young startups.

## The policy tailwind

Emversity’s chosen sectors line up with government priorities. India’s Union Budget
2026-27, presented on 1 February 2026, proposed upgrading existing allied health
professional (AHP) institutions, setting up new ones in the private and government
sectors, and adding 100,000 allied health professionals over five years, according
to the [Press Information Bureau](https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2221455&reg=48&lang=2).
The budget also proposed a high-powered “Education to Employment and Enterprise”
standing committee and upgrading the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering
Technology into a National Institute of Hospitality.

Allied health professionals include radiology, operation-theatre and lab technicians,
the roles Emversity trains for. A public push to expand AHP training could bring
both more demand for such courses and more competition from public and private institutions.

## Why it matters

Emversity’s round shows where education investors are putting money in 2026: into
models tied to specific jobs and employers, rather than open-ended online courses.
Its pitch rests on outcomes, so the numbers that matter most are placement rates,
starting salaries and how many students complete programmes, and so far these come
mainly from the company itself.

For founders, the lesson is in the distribution. By working through existing universities,
Emversity avoids building campuses and uses the universities’ degree-granting status,
while selling employers a supply of trained staff. The risks are execution across
hundreds of campuses, the quality of training at that scale, and student fees in
a market where entry-level salaries can be ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 a month by the company’s
own figures.
