The AI tools that help a chartered accountant’s practice in India today are mostly
built into GST, accounting and reconciliation software, not standalone chatbots.
As of 15 October 2026, the useful set is narrow: ICAI’s own CA GPT for research,
reconciliation tools such as Vyapar TaxOne (formerly Suvit) and Clear GST for GSTR-
2B and purchase-register matching, Tally’s Docs by Ira for turning client invoices
into draft vouchers, and a general assistant on a business plan for drafting. The
bigger question is what client data you can safely put into them.

## Key takeaways

 * ICAI launched CA GPT on 1 July 2024 and offers it free to all members; by November
2024 it said more than 70,000 members were using it.
 * For GST work, AI is most useful in reconciliation: matching supplier invoices
against GSTR-2B and the purchase register, and flagging mismatches for a human
   to decide.
 * Prices published by vendors range from about ₹1 a page (Tally’s Docs by Ira packs)
to ₹10,000 a year (Vyapar TaxOne’s unlimited plan), plus 18% GST.
 * We found no ICAI rule that bans or approves specific AI tools, but the confidentiality
duty in the Chartered Accountants Act still applies to anything you upload.
 * The DPDP Rules, notified on 14 November 2025, phase in over 18 months; penalties
for failing to protect personal data can reach ₹250 crore.

## What AI actually does in a CA practice

A practice’s hours go into data entry, reconciliation with government records, returns,
and drafting. AI helps most with entry, reconciliation and drafting: tools read
invoices and bank statements, propose ledger entries, suggest which purchase invoice
matches which line in GSTR-2B, and produce first drafts of letters and notice replies.

None of them take responsibility. Every tool below drafts something for review or
suggests matches you accept or reject, which is the right design for a profession
whose signature carries legal weight. If software posts entries or files returns
without a human step, treat that as a warning sign.

This article covers tools for practice workflows. If you are a founder choosing
bookkeeping software for your own company, or a shop owner looking for everyday
AI tools, our other guides cover those separately; for the latest AI and startup
developments, see our [news section](https://100xfounder.com/news/).

## ICAI’s own tools: CA GPT and the AI portal

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which regulates the profession,
has moved faster on AI than many expected. According to an ICAI press release dated
25 November 2024, CA GPT was launched on 1 July 2024 and is available free of cost
to all members. The same release said more than 70,000 members were actively using
it and had generated over 2.5 lakh (250,000) prompts, and that a separate GPT for
CA students had more than 50,000 users.

CA GPT is not one model but a set of specialised assistants. The November 2024 release
counts 19 of them: 16 built from ICAI committee material, plus GPTs for UAE VAT,
UAE corporate tax, the Constitution of India, and a new Industry Forum. That Industry
Forum, launched at a webinar on 24 November 2024, holds the FY 2023-24 annual reports
of 5,000 listed companies, linked to more than 70 industry GPTs. That is a useful
starting point for benchmarking a client against listed peers.

An article on ICAI’s AI portal describes CA GPT as a “fenced” tool developed with
OpenAI and trained on ICAI material. The portal itself, at ai.icai.org, now carries
a use-case library, a prompt library, AI certificate courses (AICA Level-1 and Level-
2) and a survey on AI adoption in CA offices.

The prompt library is practical. One entry, filed under indirect tax and GST, is
a prompt for drafting replies to GST show-cause notices, DRC-01 and DRC-01A intimations,
scrutiny notices, refund queries and input tax credit (ITC) mismatch demands. It
returns a covering letter, a point-wise reply mapped to evidence, and legal submissions.
The entry names ChatGPT as the model it was written for. It does not carry any warning
about checking citations or removing client details, so add those steps yourself.

## GST reconciliation: where AI saves the most time

Reconciling a client’s purchase register with GSTR-2B (the auto-drafted statement
of input tax credit from suppliers’ filings) is repetitive, high-volume work, which
makes it the clearest case for automation.

### Vyapar TaxOne (formerly Suvit)

Suvit, an accounting-automation tool that works with Tally, now sells under the
Vyapar TaxOne name; its old pricing page redirects to the new one. According to
the TaxOne pricing page, checked on 15 October 2026, there is a single Unlimited
Plan at ₹10,000 a year, shown as half of a ₹20,000 list price, with GST charged
on top and a 7-day free trial that needs no card.

The plan covers unlimited bank statements (Excel, PDF and scanned PDF), unlimited
sales and purchase entries from Excel, PDF, images or the GST API, ledger and item
masters, and a transfer from Vyapar to Tally. The page lists GST reconciliation
and filing as a core module.

Who it suits: small and mid-sized practices whose clients keep books in Tally and
send a mix of PDFs, photos and bank statements every month.

### Clear GST

Clear (formerly ClearTax) aims its GST software at CAs, tax experts and larger businesses.
Its product page describes an AI-powered reconciliation engine that suggests invoice
matches, which you accept or reject, and lets you link or de-link invoice pairs.
It also supports the Invoice Management System (IMS), the GST portal feature where
recipients accept, reject or hold supplier invoices, with what the page calls smart
recommended IMS actions. You can pull GSTR-2A and 2B data across months and file
across GSTINs from one screen at PAN level.

The page claims the software can match 10,000 documents in a minute using more than
150 fuzzy-logic rules; treat that as a vendor figure. Clear does not publish prices
for this product, so expect a sales call and a quote. It suits firms handling clients
with many GSTINs or high invoice volumes, where PAN-level views matter more than
price.

## Turning client paperwork into entries: Tally’s Docs by Ira

For practices that still key purchase invoices into TallyPrime, Tally Solutions
now sells an AI add-on. According to its TallyIra page, the first product, Docs
by Ira, reads invoices scanned in the TallyIra phone app or imported in TallyPrime,
extracts the party, invoice number, date, amounts, GST and line items, flags mismatches
or missing details, maps parties and items to existing masters, catches duplicate
invoices, and creates draft vouchers in bulk, up to 10 files per upload.

The page is explicit that nothing posts to TallyPrime without the user’s review
and approval, and says documents are used only to do the job and are not used to
train models for anyone else’s benefit.

Docs by Ira needs a TallyPrime licence in India with an active Tally Software Services(
TSS) subscription, on Release 7.1 or later. Each eligible serial number gets 100
free pages once. After that, the page lists a Regular pack of 200 pages at ₹200
and a Pro pack of 3,000 pages at ₹3,000, each valid for a year, plus 18% GST. That
works out to about ₹1 a page.

For context, Tally’s own pricing page lists TallyPrime Silver (single user) at ₹
750 a month, ₹8,100 a year or ₹22,500 for a lifetime licence, and Gold (multi-user)
at ₹2,250 a month, ₹24,300 a year or ₹67,500 lifetime, all plus 18% GST.

### When the client is on Zoho Books

Zoho’s Indian pricing page lists a free plan for one user plus one accountant, so
you can join a client’s books as the accountant. Paid plans start at ₹749 a month
billed annually and include receipt autoscans (200 a month on Standard), with prices
excluding local taxes.

## Drafting: notices, memos and client letters

General-purpose assistants are useful for first drafts of notice replies, engagement
and management letters, and plain-language explanations of a tax position for clients.

The plan matters more than the model, because consumer and business plans treat
your data differently. Anthropic’s pricing page, checked on 15 October 2026, lists
model training on content as opt-out on its individual Free, Pro and Max plans,
and states no model training on your content by default for its Team plan, which
costs $20 per seat a month on annual billing or $25 monthly, for 2 to 150 seats.
OpenAI’s pricing page lists ChatGPT Business at $20 per user a month billed annually
for two or more users, or $25 monthly. Google’s Indian plans page lists Google AI
Pro at ₹1,950 a month.

Whatever you use, three rules keep drafting safe:

 * **Remove identifiers first.** Replace names, PAN, GSTIN, Aadhaar and bank details
with placeholders before pasting a notice or a ledger extract.
 * **Check every citation.** Section numbers, rule numbers, circulars and case names
must be verified against the official text before anything is filed.

## What ICAI has said, and the rule that already applies

ICAI’s public position is encouragement: it built CA GPT, runs AI courses and publishes
prompts and use cases. As of 15 October 2026 we did not find an ICAI circular or
standard that lists approved AI tools, bans particular ones, or sets specific rules
for uploading client data to them. If one is issued, it will take precedence over
anything here.

That does not leave a gap. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 already treats it
as professional misconduct for a member in practice to disclose information acquired
in the course of a professional engagement to anyone other than the client, without
the client’s consent or a legal requirement (clause 1, Part I of the Second Schedule).
Uploading a client’s unredacted ledger or notice to a third-party service is a disclosure
to that service. Whether it breaches the clause will depend on the facts and on
what your engagement letter says, which is why it makes sense to add a short AI
clause to engagement letters and get the client’s written consent.

## DPDP Act: the data-privacy side

Practice files are full of personal data: PAN and Aadhaar numbers, salary slips
and bank statements. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 governs
how that data is handled. According to a Press Information Bureau backgrounder dated
17 November 2025, the government notified the DPDP Rules on 14 November 2025, with
an 18-month period for phased compliance.

The same backgrounder sets out the penalty ceilings: up to ₹250 crore for a data
fiduciary that fails to keep reasonable security safeguards, up to ₹200 crore for
failing to notify the Data Protection Board or affected people of a breach, and
up to ₹50 crore for other violations. Crore means 10 million. The Act defines a
data fiduciary as whoever decides why and how personal data is processed, and a
data processor as an entity that processes it on a fiduciary’s behalf.

A CA firm may be a fiduciary for some data and a processor for clients’ data; an
AI vendor receiving uploads will usually be the firm’s processor. Three steps follow:

 * Know where each tool stores and processes data, and whether it uses your uploads
to train models. Get it in writing.
 * Upload only what the task needs. A reconciliation tool needs invoice data, not
   the client’s Aadhaar card.
 * Have a breach plan. The Rules require affected individuals to be told without
   delay, in plain language.

This is a summary, not legal advice. Confirm your firm’s obligations with a qualified
data-protection lawyer and the official text of the Act and Rules.

## A sensible starting stack for a small practice

  | Task | Tool | Published price (checked 15 Oct 2026) |
   | Research on standards, ICAI material, listed-company reports | ICAI CA GPT | Free for ICAI members |
 | Bank statements and invoices into Tally, GST reconciliation | Vyapar TaxOne | ₹10,000 a year + GST |
 | High-volume GSTR-2B and IMS matching across GSTINs | Clear GST | Not published; quote on request |
 | Invoices into draft TallyPrime vouchers | Docs by Ira | ₹200 per 200 pages + GST (needs active TSS) |
 | Drafting replies, letters and memos | A business-tier assistant (for example Claude Team or ChatGPT Business) | From $20 per seat a month, billed annually |

## Bottom line

For an Indian CA practice, AI is already worth paying for in reconciliation and
data entry, where tools suggest and humans approve, and it is useful for first drafts.
It is not a substitute for professional judgement, and the confidentiality and DPDP
duties make careless uploading the main risk. Pick tools that keep a human approval
step, use business plans that do not train on your content, strip identifiers before
you paste, and record client consent in the engagement letter.

Prices change often; confirm them on vendor sites. This is not tax, legal or professional
advice: confirm your obligations with ICAI guidance, the official statutes and a
qualified professional.
